Several thousand people joined a protest march to a prison in the city of Diyarbakir, and police used tear gas and water cannon to drive back groups of demonstrators who threw stones and firebombs from side streets. Mexico 'smugglers' car' gets stuck atop US border fence
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/11/88.jpg
Suspected Mexican drug smugglers who used ramps to try to drive over a US border fence were forced to abandon the plan after their car got stuck, US officials have revealed.
The two suspects were spotted by border agents earlier this week as they tried to move the Jeep sitting atop the 14ft (4.3m) fence on the California border.
They then decided to ditch the vehicle and fled back into Mexico.
The agents believe the suspects tried to smuggle marijuana across the border.
The car was found empty, but it was probably filled with bales of drugs before it got stuck, the US border authorities believe.
A similar daring smuggling scheme was tried on the US-Mexico border last year, but the suspects were captured

Victoria Cross for Australian soldier in Afghan battle
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/11/92.jpg Corp Keighran is the third Australian to receive the honour since the Vietnam War
An Australian soldier has been awarded the Victoria Cross for actions to save troops in an ambush in Afghanistan.
Corporal Daniel Keighran, 29, repeatedly drew enemy fire away from other patrol members during a battle in Uruzgan province in August 2010.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard described his actions as "spectacular acts of bravery".
He is the third Australian soldier to receive the highest honour for actions in Afghanistan.
The two other recipients were special forces soldiers. Corp Keighran is a member of the 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment.
Corp Keighran was presented with his medal by Governor-General Quentin Bryce at a ceremony in Canberra.
His citation said that on 24 August 2010 a joint patrol with Afghan soldiers was "engaged by a numerically superior and coordinated enemy attack".
He repeatedly drew fire away from colleagues and worked to identify enemy firing positions. When Australian soldier Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney, 28, was injured, he again drew fire so that others could help. Lance Corp MacKinney did not survive.
Corp Keighran's acts "ultimately enabled the identification and suppression of enemy firing positions", the citation said.
"These deliberate acts of exceptional courage in circumstances of great peril were instrumental in permitting the withdrawal of the combined Australian and Afghan patrol with no further casualties."

New arrest in case of Bolivian journalist set alight
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/11/93.jpg Fernando Vidal spoke to the press after being attacked at his radio station in Yacuiba
Police in Bolivia have arrested a fourth suspect after an attack on a radio presenter who was set alight by masked men while he was live on air.
Three men were detained shortly after Monday's attack on Fernando Vidal.
Police said they were able to locate the suspects thanks to a witness who had written down the licence plate number of their getaway car.
Government officials said Mr Vidal's outspoken criticism of smuggling had likely been the motive for the attack.
Yacuiba, where the attack took place, is only three kilometres (less than two miles) from the Argentine border.
And while there is a high-volume of cross-border commerce, journalists such as Mr Vidal have been denouncing a rise in smuggling, particularly of liquid petroleum gas.
