Russian Chief of the General Staff, Nikolai Makarov, stressed on Wednesday that there are information confirming that the armed groups in Syria have Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems (MANPADS) from various origins including the US-made Stinger missiles. "The armed groups in Syria have Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems of various foreign origins including those of US manufacturing," Makarov told the journalists.
He clarified that these weapons and equipment are being transferred to the armed groups in various ways including through civil air means.
Commenting on US President Barack Obama's instructions to provide the armed groups in Syria with a batch of portable anti-air missiles, Makarov said "The Americans have abandoned these instructions and said that they haven't provided the Syrian opposition with any weapons."

Beer drinkers in London and New York City may be separated by a frothy ocean, but, as photographers Mario Tama and Luke MacGregor saw for themselves over the past few days, they increasingly share a taste for cask ales produced by small, independent brewers.
During the pre-Prohibition era, Brooklyn (a New York City borough) had more than 45 breweries and was one of the largest brewing centers in the U.S., Getty Images reports, but today Brooklyn Brewery is the only brewery in the borough.
The tide is turning, though. A mid-year report by the Brewer's Association cited a 12 percent increase in craft beer sales to 6 million barrels this year.
The number of American breweries has surged to a 125-year-high of 2,126 breweries last year, 97 percent of which are independent craft breweries.
In Britain, meanwhile, microbreweries have seen their numbers rise above 1,000 for the first time in over 70 years, Reuters reports, even as Britons' affection for their national drink has waned. The Kernel microbrewery in Bermondsey, South London is one of many new kids on the British beer block.
"People are moving away from the mainstream rubbish," Andrew Turner of the recently opened London Fields brewery said. "They want to drink good local stuff."

Former Goldman Sachs board member jailed for two years
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/10/2356.jpg Rajat Gupta described the guilty verdict as "devastating"
A former Goldman Sachs board member who was found guilty of four criminal counts of insider trading has sentenced to two years in jail.
Rajat Gupta, 63, had leaked boardroom secrets to Raj Rajaratnam, a former hedge fund manager now serving 11 years in prison.
US District Court Judge Jed Rakoff also ordered Gupta to pay a $5m (£3m) fine.
Gupta said he regretted the impact of the case on his family and friends.
Reading from a statement, he said: "The last 18 months have been the most challenging period of my life since I lost my parents as a teenager."
He added: I've lost my reputation I built for a lifetime. The verdict was devastating."
During the court case, which resulted in Gupta being found guilty in June, the jury heard secret recordings of conversations between him and Rajaratnam.
The trial focused on a phone call made to Rajaratnam on 23 September 2008, minutes after Gupta had listened to a private conference call discussing a $5bn (£3.2bn) investment in Goldman Sachs by Warren Buffett's company Berkshire Hathaway. The deal was due to be made public after stock markets closed that day.
According to phone records, Rajaratnam bought $40m in Goldman Sachs stock moments after the phone call, earning nearly $1m.
Gupta, who was born in India and educated at Harvard, also served on the boards of Procter & Gamble, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

'Millennium bomber' Ahmed Ressam given longer sentence
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/10/2357.jpg Ressam had co-operated with authorities, but recanted when placed in solitary confinement
A man convicted of plotting a millennium eve bomb attack on Los Angeles International Airport has been re-sentenced to 37 years in prison.
Algerian Ahmed Ressam was convicted in 2001 of conspiracy to commit a terrorist act and smuggling explosives.
Initially, Ressam co-operated with investigators and was not sentenced.
However, he then stopped co-operating in 2003 and two years later was sentenced to 22 years in jail. In 2010 this sentence was ruled too short.
Prosecutors had pushed for a life sentence because he had recanted his co-operation with authorities, but Ressam's lawyers had argued for a term of up to 34 years.
Ressam was arrested in December 1999 as he crossed the US-Canadian border near Seattle with explosives in the boot of his car.
After his arrest, Ressam reportedly helped the US authorities identify more than 100 people with alleged links to al-Qaeda.
He also provided information about the network's training camps in Afghanistan.
He stopped co-operating with US authorities in 2003 after being placed in solitary confinement, causing attempts to extradite two al-Qaeda suspects to fail.
