French bell foundry Cornille Havard in Villedieu-les-Poeles in Normandy was chosen to design and cast eight replacement bronze bells for the north tower of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, set to be finished in time to ring for the 850th anniversary of the cathedral next year.
The new bells will have the same weight and diameter as the ones from the 18th-century that were melted down and turned into cannons during the French Revolution. They will be designed to recreate the centuries old sound by using the same medieval forging methods

At least eight people were killed and 78 wounded by a huge blast that exploded in a street in central Beirut on Friday, a security official told NBC News, raising fears that sectarian violence raging in neighboring Syria had spread to the Lebanese capital.
It was not immediately clear whether the blast had been caused by a car bomb, although all evidence pointed to that, the country's top military judge Hatem Madi told NBC News in Beirut. It was also not clear if the explosion targeted any political figure in Lebanon's divided community but it occurred at a time of heightened tension between Lebanese factions on opposite sides of the Syria conflict.
Ambulances rushed to the scene in the Ashafriyeh district, a mostly Christian area, as smoke rose from the area. Several cars were set on fire by the explosion and the front of a multi-story building was badly damaged.

Comedian Ronnie Barker's son has been jailed for 12 months for making indecent images of children.
Adam Barker, 44, of no fixed address, appeared at Isleworth Crown Court last month and admitted 20 counts.
Barker, the youngest son of the television comic, was first arrested in June 2003 as part of a police operation targeting people accessing indecent images of children on the internet.
A computer seized from his home in Ealing contained thousands of images.
Barker went on the run for eight years, living in Hungary.
During that time he missed the funeral of his father, who died in 2005 aged 76.
As an actor, Adam Barker had small parts in films including Shakespeare in Love and Tomorrow Never Dies.
He has also appeared in TV shows such as Casualty, Monarch of the Glen and Wycliffe.

Andrew Mitchell resigns over police comments row
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2012/10/1861.jpg
Andrew Mitchell has quit as government chief whip after weeks of pressure over an argument with police officers in Downing Street.
The Tory MP has admitted swearing at officers in the incident but again denied calling police "plebs".
He told David Cameron - who has stood by him - that "damaging publicity" meant he could no longer do his job.
Former Commons leader Sir George Young will be the new chief whip, Downing Street said.
Mr Mitchell's resignation is a victory for the Police Federation and Labour who have led calls for him to go.
But it spells the end of a 25-year political career for the Sutton Coldfield MP, who was promoted from international development secretary to chief whip in September's cabinet reshuffle.
BBC Political Editor Nick Robinson said Mr Mitchell told the prime minister about his decision in person, at Mr Cameron's country residence Chequers.
