As seen in 1860 [three years after completion], the revered and highly influential "royal" Wat Pathum Wanaram - along Klong Saen Saeb.
A couple of scenes from the 1958 military coup d'etat led by Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat [first pic above] which was spurred on by a 1957 corrupted/scandal-ridden general election resulting in the usual protest, rioting, political backstabbing, etc.
The 1958 coup was just the start of a long military-run government[s] that saw a brief spell in 1971, just to carry on for a couple more decades - with a break of off and on faux civilian govts that filled in until the next coup.
