Just out of interest, why do you think I'd make something like that up?Originally Posted by kingwilly
Personally I have no reason to doubt the veracity of the story. Frankly I wouldn't care if it was made up in any event, I enjoyed reading it.
Ignore the naysayers like 'thegent', somtamslap. You know what they say: those that can do, those that can't act like self-important, pompous windbags, on internet forums to boost their flagging self-esteem... Or something like that.
It was quite interesting and amusing. If it was not made up, maybe it was embellished a little, but who cares?
Did it take long to get a work permit?
Hmmm, this reminds me of a storyteller on TV. NR et al, help me out.
Very enjoyable story. Reminded me of my days picking cucumbers.
Whats the difference between an alcoholic and an abnormal alcoholic? One can only rack ones brains! I don't know, is an abnormal alcoholic and alcoholic who is only and alcoholic on the weekends??Originally Posted by Smeg

Good on ya. Great tale of guts and toil.
Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimern on the travel channel just did a Thailand episode and they showed the harvesting and eating of ants nests. There was also a wasp's nest meal too. People in overpopulated places are forced to eat a lot of strange things they find about the land, I knew a guy from Cambodia who used to trap dogs and sell the meat before he came to the US, he also spoke of catching and eating mice.
The whole lot is true. I know, because i was the other silly twat that was up there everyday. Somtam left out loads of stuff, like when the strimmer blade came off and nearly decapitated him. O how we laughed at that near death experience
Why do people think that this is made up?
Some people live interesting lives....... and I for one like hearing about them!
A very good story, nicely written with a happy ending. Working on the side of a mountain would be very good for my excess flab as well. Not sure about the ants and scorpions though.
That was a great read. You should write more and if you are, you should be seeking a publisher.
Easy and interesting read.
Ta muchly for reading it! My biggest regret of course was that a camera was just tad out of our price range.
However, I shall endeavour to expand....
I think you mean minor dehydration, as the last time my mate had severe dehydration on a oil rig he lost fingers toes damaged liver and kidneysOriginally Posted by somtamslap
But sounds like a good humbling experince
Wasps nest is considered a delicacy though. We had a wasp nest set up in our garden, and these kind can give you a nasty bite so they had to go. The gardener burnt out the nest, my wife and he then halfed it and gorged themselves.Originally Posted by nightowl2548
