Martial Law is incoming, at least the air is nice. This overreaction is getting a little annoying. Rumor of foreigners being expelled are doing the rounds; Mongolia has a real problem with fake news. At least I hope it is fake. More likely seems road closures to limit movement, I am expecting somewhat quarantine half-arsed measures.

Is there any ski touring going on there, Mandy?
I'm not sure, there is a small ski slope on the edge of UB, it's small but fun enough and has 3 slopes of varying difficulty. For a while some chap was renting out cross-country skis in one of the central park. which was a fun way to kill a few hours. There's another very small slope in sleepy Erdenet, some 5 hours out of UB. Not really worth the trip for that alone but a fun way to break up a roadtrip to the lakes.

Have made some summer travel plans, so in mid June I will disappear into the Gobi for 7 days, the destination is apparently some oasis that sees very few visitors. Accommodation will be a tent and the odd ger camp. After that I am making plans to head to Buir Lake- Mongolia's "beach". PGCEi done and dusted and a couple of weeks of online teaching left, I can't wait to hit the road.

It really depends where you are- in central UB they are a must but anywhere else is up to you.

^good luck on your travel plans! I hope they turn out well. Re: Gobi desert, I saw pics of that from a Mongolian acquaintance. That guy went to hike a hill/ mountain? in the desert. He said it was a hard trek. One of his friends gave up in the middle - only 2 of them reached the top. I tour-guided their group when they visited PI last year. Cheers and bon voyage!

Supposedly we will be back in the classroom in September, but if there is a second wave I suspect we will be back to the situation we have now. Hopefully better treatment and understanding of COVID-19 will be around by then. I actually don't think social distancing with kids is sustainable, a walk in the local park made me think of this and it is a huge open space. had a paddle, it is still a little nippy given that it only really melted a couple of months ago. I'd certainly drive further out of the city for a proper dip though!
One of the best things about the long holidays is being able to hike as much as I like. Today I just picked a hill I liked the look of it and started hiking up it.
