They're mountains by Norfolk measurements.
Not done anything specifically on Mongolian food, so here goes. Can't guarantee the translation is perfect, but my knowledge of cyrillic is moderately not shit.
A short stroll from my apartment is a small cafe called Goyo Khuushuur. These aren't pics from the place, but they are pics of the dishes they do.https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/...62850061-1.jpg

Цуйван - Tsuivan- basically beefy or muttony noodles. Salty and pretty decent if the meat is of good quality.
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/...97843445-1.jpg
Гуляш - Gulyash: I find the Mongolian version is often way too fatty, I don't really care for it.
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/...83293414-1.jpg
Нарийн махан хуурга - Nariin makhan khuurga: Meat, veggies and spuds in a stew; can actually be really nice if they use a lean cut
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/...79425931-1.jpg
Хуушуур - Khuushuur: Deep fried meat filled pancakes. I like the beef over the mutton.
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/...14485858-1.jpg
Нийслэл салат - Niislel salad; Potato and vegetable salad with mayo. Mongolian food tends to have more of a Russian influence than Asian
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/...43293890-1.jpg
Байцааны салат - Baitsany salad: cabbage salad, no further info needed.
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/...37759933-1.jpg
Суутэй цай - Suutei Tsai-Green tea with milk, salt, and fat: Sounds vile, but in winter this is great while hiking out in -30 and less.
Looks like they make tea chitty style.
ha! Now it is spring and coming into summer I really don't care for it at all. It will always be offered to you in the countryside, along with fermented milk, which could be horse, yak or camel. Horse and yak are fine, but camel is absolutely vile to my taste.
It was 19 degrees yesterday and I went for a nice walk and beer in the park. Today is another matter:https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/...30953085-1.jpg
Curse you extreme continental climate!
1 week and the school year is over; it has gone alarmingly fast! Looking forward to stick around for another year, or maybe more...
Just got my first proper cold/cough of the year- the smoke was vile in winter but the cold bearable. Still want to explore adventurous places, so the next place of temporary residence would need to be more so than Mongolia
Mandy are those two newly hatched Gingoks on top of the rice in pic 3? and i am stunned to discover the Mongs invented Tagliatelle
It would appear that for a variety of reasons I am now the only new hire coming/wanted back. It's a good job I generally enjoy meeting new people, I guess...
Kurdistan
Niger
Bhutan
Azerbaijan
Krgyzstan
Moldova
Russia (Siberia region)
Not in any particular order of preference, will make more solid plans at the start of 2020. Bosnia Herzegovina is also on the list and pretty close to the top, just not many opportunities. Last time I was there was in 2004, so I am sure things have changed quite a bit.
Head still pounding from the work party, sat next to my coworker who is ex Russian Army, unsurprisingly he likes vodka . Did get time to hike up a mountain, we only packed 18 year old Scotch, who needs water eh?

This morning we also hiked out to "Turtle Rock"

^Are those are snow or sand tires?
Not sure, it is for sale for about 19kUSD
Yep, living and working in countries lets you get to know the locals (if you bother your arse and put yourself out there) and that opens up a whole new world. I think Mandy's done great seeing that winter through (memories in their own right) and now he'll get to enjoy the people and country in festival mood - on ya Mandy.
Taking a mate and some booze for a walk in the hills, of course, if you'r inclined. Many people do it as part of their holidays, all over the world.
It's one way to tire the kids out. Their whole body, not just their eyes and forefingers.

Great trip report Mandy!

All hail the Wolverhampton Baptists :)
Annies is long gone, it is now a very decent tex-mex restaurant with quite possibly one of the best tequila and salsa selections in the city. The reason I was there was staying it the Lohas Residence as the rooms come with washing machines. Was about 40USD a night through booking.com and they upgraded me to a one room apartment.
