I want to quit my JOB!

actually I am going to quit my punk a$$ job in America before I come to LOS, but this question is about quiting your teaching position in LOS!

Under the work visa situation, are you pretty much locked into a potentially crappy job because a school is sponsoring you to work legally in Thailand?

Or is it easy to quit & get another job to provide you with legal documentation to work in LOS?

    Any info is much appreciated!

I think it will be quite difficult for someone who has misspelt the word quit 3 times in one post to find a teaching position.

Pedantry aside, in Bangkok there seems to be no difficulty for people to change jobs rather easily. Up here it is considerably more difficult.

That's good to know you don't become a indentured servant to a school holding a visa over your head!

CMN, if you don't mind me asking, what type of visa are you on in LOS?

CMN is a well respected highly educated Language Consultant.....so he probably just about qualifies for a tourist visa

    That's what I figured!

He's been here for a while, working for the same school, so I'm wondering what type of deal he has.

You might want to post on ajarnforum.net - there are a few teachers over there...

To add a little detail to CMN's post: in theory, your visa is cancelled as soon as you leave a job and you have 7 days to either get all of your paperwork in order for a new job or to leave the country. Usually, you will have to do two or three border runs when you change jobs.

I'm talking about the situation in BKK. I understand that it's a lot more difficult to get the proper Visa/work permit/etc... upcountry.

Bustak is a member over there, i've spoken with him a few times.
He obviously feels that even the non teachers here will offer up better advice than the brain dead community of pseudo teachers over there.

^Probably so. I would imagine William will be around shortly to give the best answer to bustaks's question.

But, then you guys have answered the question already. Never mind William.

On topic - guess it depends on the particuar situation...if you want ot leave a job, but you're gonna leave your employers witha problem then they will try to stop you....on the other hand if it's no problem for them then there's no reason if it shouldn't go smoothly...

Like CMN said, I do post on ajarn.com too, but I think I should get some opinions on here also. On TD it seems like there's a lot more people who've been here for a while, compared to ajarn.com.

    Thanx for the info!

Well, he's well with Welsh, yes?

Chiang Mai is full of Thais just bustin' to learn Welsh. CMN makes a wee proper bit teachin' that Wales thing. But the Thais think he comes from a whale, like that Jonah feller in the Bibble.

If you are not going to give your employers a problem when leaving, then you are not much use to the company, are you?

Do you have to pay yourself The 50K? I've heard it will go to 60K soon.

All depends where you come from. I think 60k has been the US grade for sometime. However, Thais think Brits are willing to work here for less, hence 50k

Maybe the reason it's 10K more is because Americans cause more problems!

When you say 50-60K, is that every 90 days!?!?! If so that's a lot of cheese!

If you work for a reputable company, they should pay the work permit fees for you.
I'm not sure what the 50k refers to.

Might be getting at the fact that work visas are only issued to Americans who earn and are taxed on more than 60 k a month, Brits can get a work permit based on a salary of 50k a month.
The teaching profession is exempt from these rules as far as I'm aware.
