    Credit Card : Thai Bank

I wanted to apply for a credit card here. First call was Bangkok Bank and after the predictable 2 hours hours painful debate was told I had to have had a work permit for 3 years.

I've had an account with BB for 5 years and earn 50k a month. I've had a work permit for 2 years.

Any recommendations of other banks here?

Can't be arsed with Bangkok Bank anymore as it took another 1 hour to set up an internet bank account.

Dont know about credit cards but Kasikorns net banking is much better. Quick to set up and you can use most browsers, you have to do a song and dance with Internet Explorer for BKK banks net banking.

    Agreed ^
I got Kasi in about 15 minutes. Debit card, on-line no worries. Friendly too in BanChang.

Only downer was transferring funds from Ban Chang to Chang Kong and they hit me 3% service charge.

You're right, not compatible with Firefox or Safari. Definitely on the look out for a new bank then.

One of my main priorities would be how long you have to have a new account before you can apply for a credit card.

Am I wrong assuming many farangs have credit cards. Come on whose got one?

My boss is normally good with that kind of thing, helped me out with all work permit and visa things. How much do they have to guarantor, so to speak (again apologizes for spellin)

    ggaarraannteerr. No idea.
My gf at the time rocked up with me and everything went smoothly. I got the impression that this helped.
    Remember I didn't get a cc.
I just think tha smaller, friendly branch of the Kas. with your paperwork and a mate is your best bet.
    Good luck.

I have 2 SCB cards and one Amex.

Minimum salarey 100,000THB, account with work permit for a year. That means a year for the account not the WP.

both incredibly easy and one of my staff got it the other day without bother.

    I don't have a Thai one.

I had three up until a couple of months ago, one with just over 11,000GBP spent on it I paid off completely and destroyed, the other with 40,000GBP limit I have never used and don't intend on using is back in the UK tucked away in a drawer and my Barclaycard which I use frequently has a 3,000GBP limit which I am happy to keep and continue to use.

What do you need a Thai cc for anyway?

I think he's one of those super-rich accountants, so that is probably his hourly rate.

I also have Visa and Mastercard with SCB but the min salary asked for was 50k and got it whilst opening a new account...

I'm currently doing training programs at SCB Head Office so I'll ask for you...their SCBEasy is an excellent online banking service which works fine with FF...

I transfer money from KBank to others all the time and it's free if you use the correct option.

Maybe not everyone has a UK/western bank account? Duh!

Anyway, I've been toying with the idea of approaching KBank for a CC, as it's apain in the arse hiring cars for the weekend or buying airline tickets without one.

As far as the salary went, they definately required 100,000 minimum per month to get a CC when I applied.

I only get 100,000 per month paid locally before tax. That was what I declared on the application form.

I applied at the same time as another guy here. He decalred 83,xxx as his monthly salary as that is the post tax amount we receive. He was refused.

They then give you two cards with 100,000 limit. Funny thing is, it is for both cards not per card. Never sure why I have two.

The amex was the easiest card to get but ehn they charge for the privilege of having it. Took about 3 days from submitting the application to having the card in my mitts.

Good luck, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to it. I was with KBank for years, applied for a Visa, and was flat-out rejected. When I asked for the reason(s) why they said: 'sorry, we can't give out personal information'.

My wife mentioned this to a friend of hers that works for Bangkok Bank, within a matter of days I had approval and got a card from them despite the fact I've never even had an account there. They even constantly call me to 'ask' (tell really) that my credit limit's been extended, to the point that it's annoying.

Through all of this I've had my AMEX and they've been nothing but brilliant. Customer service second to none in my book.

Odd question. If I had a UK card I'd be paying for exchange rates when settling my monthly bill and doubtless a nice transfer fee as well.

When I asked for the reason(s) why they said: 'Because you are a fucking buffoon'.

There's no word in Thai for "buffoon"!

By the way; did you hear about Bulldog from the other place? Very sad.

True, but I'm relying on the fact that the Suk Soi 33 branch has always been excellent with me and they're used to dealing with foreigners. I shall prolly take a piece of Thai totty along to help things along.

Monthly bills can be done with a debit card in an ATM or via online banking.
The credit card is a must though for internet shopping, flight tickets for instance.

I have one, and my personal savings and deposit accounts as well.
No problem to get credit cards and a service from them which resembles the service you got from European banks 20 years ago when they were still service-minded.
