I think there is only one poster on this forum, Natalie8, who is a faring woman married to a Thai.

None of the foreign women I know married to Thai men have work permits and have been working in Thailand for years and years. They all have to do 90 day reporting and yearly non-o visas.

Think your find your in the same boat as a bloke who is married to a Thai lady.

Do you honestly expect special treatment for being female.

    Your farlang simple as that!

She does get special treatment, easier PR and she can become a citizen by dint of being married, which men cannot.

My ex-secretary who was born in the Philippines achieved full Thai national status purely because she married a Thai male. Passport the lot, needs no work permit and is treated by Thais as 100% Thai.

    Did not know that!
So because she,s a bird married to a Thai bloke she can get Thai citizenship, without all the hassle.

Why is different for women then, she is still a farlang and you would imagine both sexes to be treated the same.

If this is fact there must be a valid reason.

She can also use her Thai husband's salary for her permission to stay extension, but I cannot use my Thai wife's.

I have a friend who is an American married to a Thai.

She was able to put in an application for a passport a few years after she was married.

I think it took about 12 years to be processed though......

    Incorrect.

12 month Extension of Temporary Stay based on marriage. Females are exempt from having to show proof of funds (400k in bank for 2 months or income of ??? is it still only 40k p/m?).

Anyway, they don't need to show any of that to get the 12 month marriage extension.

She is presently abroad in Manila and upon her return I will ask her to contact you as she quite easily can arrange all the paperwork on your behalf as this is one of the things she now does professionally.

Section 9 of the Thai naturalization act provides for a female married to a Thai to acquire citizenship.

Section 9. An alien woman who marries a person of Thai nationality shall, if
she desires to acquire Thai nationality, file an application with the competent official
according to the form and in the manner prescribed in the Ministerial Regulations.
The granting or refusal of permission for acquisition of Thai nationality shall lie with
    the discretion of the Minister.

You may have trouble with the competent bit,but I suggest you go to the Immigration office at chaeng wattana and see if you can find one.
There will be a form somewhere, keep asking until they give it to you.

Isn't it about time a Thai Wife of a Farang challenges this ruling then as being unconstitutional to them? If a thai man gets it all so easy for his farang wife, it is unconstitutional that a Thai women (who, lets remember, needs to be treated equally by law) has to be discriminated against.

So as all of us here are married to Lawyers, Barristers, CEO, Politicians (or their HiSo Daughters), surgeons, doctors, MD, CFOs, and every other high flying job in the world surely one of us has a Mrs willing to take this fight to the cunts in power? I would, but she's not speaking to me still following NY.

    Interesting read.
Foreign women married to Thai men can apply for Thai citizenship based on their marriage to a Thai man after five years of marriage and the same should apply to foreign men married to Thai women.

Any farang woman that marries a Thai male has to be some kind of superwoman in my book. Just my observation.

I know a Singaporean lass married toa Thai and she is not having any of the crap that the rest of us have to put up with and has been running a food counter at a mall for years without a wp or Thai citizenship without any issues.

But one thing I would say is the advantages you have now with 90 day reporting can disappear with no notice and with no grandfathering.... This is what happened last time the changed the extension rules when the changed the 40k family income requiremt to a husbands income.

It's also worth noting that the Thai constitution states that men and women are equal, and clearly this preferential treatment is probably unconstitional.

Its not worth a Thai wife or foreign husband challenging the rules as the victory would be meaningless as the only change the Thais would make would be to treat foreign wives in the same way that foreign husbands are currently treated. However there is always a risk that someone within the government might decide that the constitution is more than toilet paper and deserving of some respect. If this were to happen you would most likely loose your advantages, as equal treatment is enforced.

So I would suggest that if you want to take advantage of those adavantages you currently have beyond the extension, you should do it the sooner the better. Welcome to he forum and best of luck with your endevers
