No, the first job will be to build a workshop. This I intend to start when I get back next month.

I have a spot pegged and am planning a basic 4m x 4m concrete box with roller door one end and some windows. Then I can build another room above it either at the same time or later. I need somewhere to store tools and bikes as a priority!

It is an interesting block as there is a stream running behind it and close to another road so can build a bridge across and have direct access to the shed from there:



The previous owners as well as the moobaan boss has said it is ok for me to put a bridge in so I will tap into the rebar of the road and connect to the supporting wall they have already. I will then need a decent fence and gate as well as there is only a small hedge there at the moment

It is a little strange set up as the previous owners put another hedge into the block and had this small area at the back. I will be ripping this out:

At 4m x 4m the shed wall will be sitting about where the hedge is. Given there will be the house extension there will still be room for a backyard and will most likely build a lean-to bbq watering hole sala type arrangement for me. I am struggling weather to put a room above or next to the workshop.....There are plenty of 2 story houses around there but something about it being able to see into it from all angles..I am used to wandering around my room scratching my balls/whatever that a room next to it will be more private but that will eat into the yard then the lean-to as well....I will just have to keep the curtains drawn and it is only to go crash out in. I will also need to factor in a small bathroom upstairs but at 4x4 it should be doable. This way I will end up with a 4 bed 3 bathroom home.

I have been checking out the plans on the construction forum, it is an open slate for the room. I could just go the concrete route and make it look like the main house or buy some old wood and make something Thai style? Looking for ease of maintenance and longevity though.

I think the concrete box will be cheap. Cost? It will have a roller door but are there any alternatives to those Thai ones that sound like a bomb going off when you close them? (so I can sneak in late at night on the bike....) Couple of windows and some tiles, that's it.

Any recommendations of a good builder are welcome. If he does a good job on the shed he may get the house extension later.

Cheers. I was checking places out and really liked the feel of this place. Lovely old Thai couple owned it. Had a for sale sign on the fence but when we tried to call the number it had changed so gave up. Then I went past again later and they were there (they were from BKK) so we made a deal.

I know some good tilers in the area, charge around B80/100 per sq m

Thanks. I hope it won't be too much of a nightmare trying to live in the place as well as do the renovations...I guess the lovely lawn will be trashed as well. It has a really nice garden already. The moo baan is nice as well. I wan't very impressed with living in these types of places after living on 10 rai in Phetchabun for 7 years but I found this one and was impressed. A lot of them are just the rows of identical homes crammed into their 60 talang wah blocks with not a tree in sight, I could never live like that. It is huge with wide tree lined streets and all the homes very neat and tidy. There are some proper mansions around there and has the security, pool, restaurant etc. Really safe for the boy to ride his bike around. I am loving it in CM!

I will be looking for recommended contractors, preferably someone good, neat and honest, want to get that shed going asap.

Nice looking house and one that could offer a lot of opportunities for extending as you suggested.

Ban Wang Tan. I checked out lots of moo bans but liked this place as soon as I saw it. It's a 1000 Rai, lots of trees and space. Quite different to a lot of them. Close enough to town and a nice run along the river side road (when they finish fixing it!) or jump on the ring roads. Shops etc. I would have liked to be a little closer in but a good compromise on space and price. Very happy to have 102 talang wah, most are 60 around there . The extra land was very important to me, we have empty blocks either side of us as well for the moment.

Is that on the left hand side as you go down the hang dong road away from the airport?
