    No problem.

    My landlords a bit of an arse. He's said that that he's not going to fix anything else in the house and if I want anything done I'll have to pay for it myself. But thats a different topic.

    I've got the design sorted in my head now, so I'm going to draw up a quick design later if there's not too much going on at work. I'll post up my sketch when I'm done.

    yes one way valve is the simple solution for backwater.

    For a land under the road level the solution is a pvc aerated drain pipe under a geotextile who run to an inground reservoir with a pump with a water leveled switch and a HDPE tube who run to the street drain or other low level area.

    But in your case it won't do anything if the storm drain is full.
