PIR (Electrical question)

I've just installed a PIR lighting system; the lights surround the perimeter of the house, and the PIR covers the gates and about half of the front yard. I now want to cover the rear of the house with another PIR.

Can I install 2 PIRs on the same cicuit? Basically they will be sharing the same load. I can't see a problem being that they're A/C. Will there possibly be an issue when both PIRs are activated?

the IR detectors have a switch/contact and I guess you will be wiring them so it will be normally open - IR detector triggered --> close the contact and supply/sink power to the light fitting. If you have 2 IR detector normally open contacts wired in series , both will have to be activated before the circuit is complete. To have either IR detector switch on the light you would need the contacts wired in parallel.

if you could supply a scan of the IR detector schematic and a sketch of the wiring we could probably tell you a bit more accurately what you have to do .

Just connect them up as you would any light (no switch needed)

I would think that if each PIR has its own supply, but shares the same load it should be fine.

I'll wire it and see how it goes.

I fiitted one up to my house and it worked fine at first but after a few months the detection range got shorter and shorter. Eventually it was down to two metres .

a pir is simply a switch. more than likely all the switches on one floor of your house are on one breaker. so no probs with that , once the pir operates up to you which light you want to come on, one or more. personaly i would stick with a light in the same vicinity as the pir, that way you know where your intruder is, light the whole outside and you've no idea where the intruder is. you can fit a smale audible alarm in the house so if asleep you get warning of intruder.

as for the PIR lights, in general they are quite poor quality. They last a year or so and then start doing odd things (like Thetyims)

mine used to switch on and off like they thought there was a disco going on
threw it away and got a new one, so far so good

I had em for awhile in the states and I didn't like em, to many things set em off, alright if you have a good pellet gun and want to thin out the cats in the area.
