Shabby Chic furniture - another lockdown project

    Anyone repaint their wooden furniture?

Seems to be all the rage here in the UK at the moment.

Get a tin of chalk paint and brighten up wooden furniture.

Greens and creams seem to be all the rage.

    I've opted for a silver , what's your opinion?...

Only another 20 odd items to go..

Dries quickly and is odourless, a change is as good as a rest.

    Shalom

Will you rub some of the edges with sandpaper to make it look properly shabby?

How many coats of chalk paint to cover TDWankers on your mantle?

I agree, I much prefer natural wood.
Teak and pine are my favourites.

I'm only painting the dark oak furniture in my living room and hallway.

Anyone else got any furniture restoration projects on the go?

Same here. I picked up some v cheap second hand oak furniture (a free sideboard) and poshed it up. A dressing table a d side table for a guest bedroom.

I used paint stripper to remove the tops' surface varnish. A thorough sanding and then white Osmo oil.

Then the bases were sanded, wiped down with methylated spirit to remove wax. Then Farrow and Ball dark undercoat follwed by Valspar copy of a Farrow and Ball water based eggshell. "Homosexual Grey", I believe.

I have a plan with an old scaffold boatd and some spindle metal legs to make a lean to side table for this space (pic of the pooch on the beach).

More on that when legs arrive.

the top needs to be beachy/ sea side-ish. Maybe a distressed white?

This hallway table was weather and paint stained from
a friend's garage. Free, otherwise it was going on the skip. It gave it a thorough wash and scrub with wire wool and sugar soap wash. After dryi g, a sand and wipe down with meths.

two undercoats with Farrow and Ball dark ucoat. Gentle sanding between coats. Finished with a coat of Valspar copy of F and B eggshell.

It was missing a drawer knob so I used repro antique brass style from
    local tat shop.

it's a useful table for the porch. I like the colour march with the wallpaper. The wallpaper is from
a photo I took of some street art in Athens a year or so ago.

For years I've been meaning to strip the varnish off our dining table. It's a lovely slab of mahogany but the texture of the wood is completely hidden by a horrible thick layer of varnish. Every scratch shows and it looks awful. I want to see the wood and watch it age.

I guess it will be paint stripper followed by sanding, and then some kind of wood stain?

The first step will be to find some people to help carry it out to the garden, a four man job at least.

In some ways it seems a bit pointless since almost every night I eat with my daughter on our our coffee table... but maybe I should strip that as well?

Mendip, it would be a lot of work as you would have to do the chairs as well. Any place nearby where you could have it acid dipped?
