How much do these things cost, DD?

Can you put them on concrete posts, rather than wooden ones?

Can you put 2 or 3 togther to make a decent sized place?

yeah, you would put these up on concrete posts, but then you would shape the concrete to look like tree trunks, I think the big 3 bed ones were about half a million.

    How big is 'big'?

I actually want a U shaped place. The courtyard being around a small swimming pool.

Each wing would be the main living areas, with the central connecting bit, being a semi-open living area.

I guess I'd be looking at well over 1m Baht?

I got to admit I really like these wooden houses, but as I drink too much and also smoke it would probably be dangerous for me to live in one, I shall have a little drive around tomorrow to find a place that will let me take some pics

    Thanks for the pics, Triton.

That gaff is quite nice, but the main rooms are a little too open for what I would like. I want to able to open it up using large windows, but also have the option of using aircon.

I'll have to get my architect head on and do some plans...

@Marmite, did you ever get to make these plans or THE plan ?
This being an old thread, maybe you bought something like this already or build it ?

I didn't because if you're going to re-use old an old timber house then I would probably get the builder to use his experience to modify it to my needs. Also, until I actually get the land, I wouldn't want to waste the architect's time.

CMN knows a decent architect in Chiang Mai apparently.

I visited a place in between Rayong and Ban Phe that makes or markets these types of houses. I had a similar experience, there were "No Photo" signs plastered everywhere - and they assigned a worker (not a salesperson) to hound us as we strolled around the grounds. Ridiculous, it was a big place and we were practically bumping elbows.

I like wooden houses, but I didn't see what the fuss was about. It's all kinda like variations on a theme, isn't it? Mind blowing architecture and exquisite craftmanship - I just don't see it. What's the big fucking secret they're trying to protect?

Anyway, if your in the market for one of these things and your in the area, check it out. In between Rayong and Ban Phe, you can't miss it.
