You've done well for the money, and the garden will look nice when it's landscaped. I'd keep the house where it is, and upgrade it with walls down stairs, a western kitchen, and sit down shitter, and electric shower.
A new high sided roof in the classic Thai style.

We have another house and land similar to yours about 1 hour from Udon Thani.
We lifted the house on a crane, got rid of the stilts, walls were built, then lowered back. New kitchen and bathroom.
We then had a door made right across the front with black glass.
All that needs doing now is replacing some of the teak planks upstairs, and a new roof done in the old classic style.

Nooners, this might be worth considering, just in case your new neighbours turn out to be total loons like the last lot
There is a Swedish company in Khon Kaen that makes wooden houses (CCA termite treated) the house is delivered on a truck and can be assembled and and disasembled and moved later on. All you need at deliver point in the concrete slab laying down.
    Tra slott company homepage

This house costs about a million baht

^ That was for Begbie, I think he may have missed the bit about the house being delivered on a truck

^I was referring to CMNs post where he said San Kampaeng north of Chiang Mai, which it isn't.

Krakatoa east of Java comes to mind.

^ Ah hah, I might buy one of those houses and stick it on a truck. No need to own land

Looks good CMN, I like DD's idea about using the existing house as a living room and having walkways to elevated bedrooms etc.

    Yeah, I agree with that.
Good luck with that house, it looks great in my eyes.
No close neighbors I presume, that's priceless!
Looks like a good place to live.
I found a somewhat similar rented one in the Nong Khai Provice:

I think the whole property is a bargain. It won't take much to upgrade the house.

    Cheers all.
and as Begbie said, it is East of Chiang Mai.
I get confused at times because for some reason I always think of the Thapae area as the North.

I'm off to the bank to spend some money on the house before I end up pissing it against a wall.

    btw.
this is my first ever post in linux.

    What distro?
I am always getting disappointed after working with linux for some weeks.
Mostly because of the lack of applications compared with all there is with Windows.
Since I have bought a laptop with Vista on it I do not have the wish to try any linux distro again, for the 70th time or so.

Worked with Red Hat, SuSe, Knoppix, Mandrix, Mandriva, Gentoo, Ubuntu, Kubunto and a few others... In the end, after a day or 10, I was working with Windows again. I guess linux is not my cup of tea. Maybe better not start a linux-windows war here, it's an endless conversation, just wanted to make some advertisement for Vista, LOL. Good that I got rid of those Man pages, spend soooooo many hours looking in those manuals...

Just got back from paying my deposit.
The deeds will be transferred tomorrow.
    I really can't wait.
I'm totally in love with the place.

I have 7 cats, they eat stuff, there are chickens wandering around the place.
do you think the cats will eat them?

CMN has nothing to fear in this case.

When the chicken get little chicks better make a henhouse. Otherwise the cats wil find the poor things. We had the same situation overhere. Be warned if you want to save those little souls. A henhouse is easy to make.

Dogs are just as bad as cats, but one can train them - some of them, anyway.
