Thread: Advice Please - How to repair a ceiling

I need to repair a plaster board ceiling that over time has begun to crack and has several water stains from roof leaks ( now repaired ) . Before I venture into the nearest builders merchants or Home Pro , I thought I would ask you guys for advice on the best way to personally go about repairing the ceiling. I remember back home in the Uk , you could buy some thick ceiling paint that covered any marks and cracks and it left a ripple pattern behind . Ive got the paint brushes / rollers , steps and time but I'm not sure what to use . Any ideas please.

First of all find the leak and fix it.

//edit: you already did that I see, do a water test first to make sure the leak is gone. Preferably add color to the water so it'll be easy to spot.

Do you want to just paint it or take down and replace said offending board/boards?

Check too see if the board has much damage on the leaks. If it looks solid, spread a very thin layer of plaster over the stains and repaint the entire ceiling.

If the material is damaged, best to replace the section with new piece. You will then have to tape and plaster the joints. Sand and repaint the entire ceiling.
