Since Skype was bought by microsucks and ever since then I am dropping calls, not receiving notification fo incoming calls until I log off and log back in, and various other problems.

    Anyone else having trouble??

    Skype crashes again

Skype has crashed for the second time in less than two weeks, causing further worldwide disruption to the popular internet phone and messaging service.

As before, the firm again said the failure was affecting a "small" number of users.

"A small number of you may have problems signing in to Skype," it said on Twitter after the crash at around 12 noon.

"We’re investigating the cause, and hope to have more details to share soon."

"We've identified the cause of the problem, and have begun to address it," the firm added at around 1.30pm

"If you've been affected, you should start to see improvement in the next hour or so. You shouldn't need to manually sign back in to Skype - it should reconnect automatically when it's able to do so."

Users from all over the world quickly registered their anger, however, and again disputed that the problems were affecting a "small number" of users.

"Not sure about [at]skype's idea of 'small number'. Everyone I know who uses Skype is offline," said South African web developer Paul Watson.
Skype claims more than 660 million registered users and recently boasted a new record of 30 million online at once.
Its latest failure follows a similar incident on May 26, which also occured at around noon UK time. Following a software update the Skype desktop software crashed repeatedly, cutting off users worldwide.
News the problems do not appear to have been resolved almost two weeks later piles further embarrassment on Microsoft, which agreed to buy skype for £5.2bn in May. The value for money represented by the deal was widely questioned.

Why would they bother going through all that twice?

I left Skype about 3 years ago, it was already dropping calls and being very slow

MS will just put the nail in that coffin,

I suspect the operation is nothing more like a big NSA operation, too many strange things with that company, where their HQ are located, and how they become an overnight success with no income etc... they couldn't have secured more funding with so little income, it's a money losing business

incidentally Skype is used in majority by Chinese, so quite an interesting way to "collect" information for a foreign power. Another reason why the Chinese government has been trying to shutdown Skype access from their network.

Microsoft Assures Apple, Android Users they'll Still Get Skype

By Gregg Keizer, Computerworld Oct 15, 2011 7:30 pm
As it wrapped up its acquisition of Skype, Microsoft again assured users that it would continue to develop versions for platforms other than Windows.
Last week, Microsoft announced that it had closed the $8.5 billion deal for Skype, the Luxembourg-based Internet phone and chat giant. Microsoft and Skype unveiled the planned acquisition in May.
Skype will operate as a new business division within Microsoft, and Tony Bates, formerly the chief executive of Skype, will report directly to Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer.
In May, Ballmer promised that his company would continue to develop and support Skype on rival platforms.
"A, I said it and I meant it," Ballmer said when a reporter asked for assurances that Skype would continue to support operating systems and devices not sold by Microsoft. "B, we're one of the few companies with a track record of doing this," Ballmer added, citing Microsoft's Office edition for the Mac.
Skype offers versions of its software for Apple's Mac OS X and Linux on the desktop, and on Google's Android, Apple's iOS, RIM's BlackBerry and Nokia's Symbian mobile operating systems.
    Today, Bates reaffirmed Ballmer's promise.
"I'm sure on a lot of people's minds post-merger is the simple question, will the Skype experience change? The answer is an emphatic no," said Bates in a video posted to Microsoft's website today. "The value proposition of Skype is being multi-platform across different devices, whether it's PCs, desktops, mobile phones, whether it's in the living room, and that's key and that must stay. And we're committed to that."
Antitrust regulators in the U.S. and the European Union have approved the deal.
EU officials cleared the acquisition even though Messagenet, an Italian rival to Skype, had asked regulators there to block the move unless Microsoft agreed not to bundle Skype with its Office products.
"This acquisition has the potential to lessen competition in the VoIP space and could lead to less consumer choice and/or higher prices," said Messagenet's CEO, Marco Fiorentino, in an email last week. "We remain watchful of the Microsoft and Skype integration in light of EU telecom regulations and antitrust law."

Where did you get that ?

In my office everybody use QQ, MSN second, nobody's on Skype.

If Skype is not option, what will you recommend ? It would be mostly to talk with my parents back home so I need something VERY simple but with large picture of good quality, at 80 something their eyesight is not that good anymore.

Ignore Butters, he's an Apple user who's afraid of new technology. Or as I prefer to put it, "A fucking gay retard".

You don't need Skype to talk PC to PC with video, Windows Messenger will do the same job.

You can also buy Webcams with the microphone built in.

And REALLY big monitors and speakers.

    Google is your friend.
