Unprecedented 90 Per Cent Of Thais To Access To Internet By 2016
    January 26, 2011

BANGKOK, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says that his government's national broadband scheme will yield unprecedented 90 per cent access to the Internet by the Thai public over the next five years with their higher living quality and standards, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.

Abhisit told TNA on Wednesday that the equal access to the Internet, including the third generation (3G) broadband services and others, by most Thai people across the country by 2016 will enable them to surf on a variety of online information in the education, health, business and all other sectors.

The Thai leader said that his administration has launched a project on translating over 3.5 million pages of web-based English documents into the Thai language for local youths in the initial stage so far.

The Thai premier noted that his government will also resort to technologies appropriate to address any specific restraint in each area to serve local needs and to ensure public safety and better living conditions, as the advance online services can link to, for instance, local close circuit television camera (CCTV) systems, long-distance learning programmes, as well as agricultural, health and market updates for farmers and other locals of all ages.

Meanwhile, Thai Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Chuti Krairiksh acknowledged once the Internet infrastructure is established nationwide, all Thai population can equally access to available online services at lower costs, and that investment projects on various online systems, including fibre-optic and satellite technologies, are underway to ensure access to the Internet by even people in remote areas throughout the country.

Entirely plausible on the planet Abhisit. Sadly totally unrealistic on the planet Earth.

Considering that by 2016 the only two websites Thais will be allowed to access will be http://www.welovetheking.com and http://grassonpeople.whodontlovethking.com I can't really see why any of them would bother.

By which time, 3G, in the unlikely event it ever happens in Thailand, will have been obsolete for nearly 5 years.
