    Card reader

I plug my camera SD memory card into my computers card slot and nothing comes up on the screen. I then try putting the card into an adaptor that plugs into a port. Still nothing comes up on the screen. I then connect the cable that came with the camera into a port and bingo I get an indication that the camera has been connected and I can save my photo's to the computer. Has the card reader device been disabled when it was in for repair ? If so, how do I restore things ?

go to the manufacturers website and search for drivers, find the required driver and download it. Should work.

The computer has a name of 'DmA' on the front and I bought it locally. I've googled DmA but I'm struggling to come up with a site.

What the size of your SD card ? I have a 8GB card and I had the same problem. Some readers old generation can't read card above 2 or 4GB, I can't remember the exact size.

Control Panel / System / Device Manager / Storage Volumes

If a yellow blob appears next to the Card Slot in Device Manager Right Click and either enable or update driver depending on the issue.

Could well be, but I can't see the DmA emblem on the front properly. It looks to be in red which it is on my computer

try formatting the card (whilst in the camera) using the usb cable and then see if it works when using the slot or adaptor.

In System Properties I press System Restore. In a box it says :-
    Drive (C) Turned Off
    Data (D) Turned Off
    Does that help ?

Yes I can access the photo's if I connect the USB cable from the camera to the computer, but if I put the card into the slot or put it into the adapter nothing happens.

Right-Click on "My Computer" and select "Manage".

    Device manager should appear there.

Open it and you should be able to see devices that don't have properly installed drivers (or don't work properly).

You can Right-Click them and try and Update Driver.

if updating the drivers doesnt work, then

with the card in the camera, use the camera menu to select the 'format" option.
then try the card again via the memory slot on the computer or using your card reader adaptor.

or with the card in the camera and attached via the usb cable to the computer and using "my computer", locate the new storage drive letter for the card and right click and select 'format', this will clear everything on the card and reset it, you might find that the computer then recognises it when you use the slot or adaptor.

make sure you have downloaded your photos first though, as i said, formatting wipes the card clean.

Done that and now have Computer Management with all the categories having a + sign in front of them.

If the device is installed and not working, it should be visible. If it's not even being recognised, perhaps it's broken.

When you plug it in, does the hard disk light flash and do you hear the tone you would normally hear when you plug a USB device in?

Yes a green light at the side of the slot does come on, but I don't hear any tone. The light goes off when the card is withdrawn.

Maybe you should just take it to Pantip Plaza, Superman. If you fly it wont take long.

This solution does have its merits, considering they're as cheap as chips.
