The iPhone is not a Smart Phone !!!

    I have a new iPhone 3G with iOS 4.01 and it's great,

but I came to realize that it's actually anything but a phone, it's simply a mini-computer that is paired with a mobile SIM. Things I didn't imagine I would need before are making a lot of sense now, and I guess the iPhone delivers on that front. I see it as a portable appliance, not a phone. In that regard, the iPad could be seen as a portable appliance but with a bigger screen and for certain business apps the iPad would make a lot of sense, like following your stock trading, or watching Bloomberg TV online while performing trade operations.

There are still a few dysfunctionalities in true apple style, strange menu, strange key sequence to do a simple task, illogic display and some clumsiness in the UI you find on all apple products.

Others than that, I highly recommend anyone who is doing a lot of shit online to buy one.

    Quack Quack would be proud

3G does not support Multi-tasking, wallpaper changes, being able to lock in either portrait or landscape modes, bluetooth keyboard.

I am not saying there is a great difference but the 3GS as well as being faster than the 3G also ustilises more of iOS 4.01 functions.

Given the rate at with the iPhone 4 has been flying off the shelves there will be plenty of used 3G and 3GS on the market and I dont expect there to be much difference in price.

Basically if anyone is looking for a cheaper alternative to iPhone 4 (and a device that can also make phone calls) I would recommend considering a 3GS above a 3G for the extra few Baht.

Or buy an Android phone and do what *you* want to do, not what Steve Jobs decides you can.

If I was considering getting a new phone today I would choose a HTC Evo over an iPhone

it does actually, that's an OS issue, not device issue. I am doing all those tasks above with my 3G

I posted a list of difference between the 2 in one of Quack Quack thread

good point, probably the most annoying thing but at the same time, it limits the apps choice so at the end the tards are happy

too many apps already to choose from,

it's more than a few extra baht, the difference here between 3G and 3GS is 100 EUROS for second hand, and the 3GS new is about 400 EUROS so the cheapest you can get is 3G for 200 EUROS which is about 9000 THB

Why are you quoting prices for new when the iPhone 3G 16GB was discontinued in June 2009 when the 3GS was released? (8GB discontinued last June but what use is an 8GB). A comparison of NEW is total bollox, and we don't spend Euros in Thailand

A used 16GB 3G will be between 14-25 Months old whereas a used 16GB 3GS will be between 2-14 months old and the majority of 3GS owners I know, myself included, upgraded to a 32GB 3GS from a 16GB 3G, so I very much doubt that there are many used 14 month old 16GB 3GS on the market.

Apart from the fact that compared to the 3G the 3GS has in addition :-

    • 833 MHZ v 620 MHZ Processor
    • 256 v 128 MB DRAM
    • 7.2 Mbit/s HSDPA, Voice Control, Bluetooth 2.1
    • 3MP v 2 MP Camera with 30fps VGA Video, Tap to Focus, white balance etc
    • Improved Audio Codec
    • 1219 v 1150 mA-h battery giving 25% longer Audio / 33% longer Video playback times
The phones are identical Yes Right

I was quoting new price for 3GS, not 3G since it's no longer available, thought my post was clear enough, and no, comparing new and second hand is not irrelevant in the buying decision

the specs are slightly different but hardly worth an expensive upgrade, a known problem for all apple products, paying extra premium on the top of an existing premium for a few marginal improvement
