    Qwerty vs Dvorak

    I'm talking keyboards here

The above was created before the war, but didn't surpass the qwerty because the cost of replacing typewriters then would've been massive.

Anyway the merits of Dvorak are that it suits the physiology of the hand better and you can achieve much faster wpm with a very short learning curve, e.g. the home row contains letters which will allow you to type 5000 words, rather than the stupid 'fff' 'jjj' type learning one does with qwerty.

I'd love to try it but don't want to fuck up my computer.

I struggle to get the '£' sign

Do you think there is any merit in it ?

After using a qwerty keyboard since the age of about 4, I reckon it would take bit more than a 'short learning curve'.

Interesting concept, but my typing speed is just fine the way it is and I don't find my fingers/hands overly tired after a hard days emailing. I'll carry on as I am.

I'm the same , but I'd like to type without looking at the keyboard, and being an insomniac occasionally I like to type in the dark without error.

I actually studied typing at school, although they called it 'keyboard applications'. It was done on old Olympus typewriters and we were trained to touch type, fingers on the home keys and all that.

I was the only guy in the class, unsurprisingly, and the only person to get an A grade.

Although I haven't typed like that for quite a while I'm still fairly ok and I reckon I could get away with minimum typos in the dark.

buy a $5 keyboard and a pack of stickers for it - stick on the letters in the dvorak pattern , and then just change your keyboard type in your OS.
