    Java Video Web Server

    Diagnosis/cure required!

    Hi all

My lad's school has web cams in classrooms. Using a password I can log on and see his lessons. Worked ok until this week. As he has been off for a couple of weeks, I have not used it for a little while.

This week, instead of getting the camera feed, I just have a plain white box. Logs on fine, Java loads up, username and password ok, sidebars appear but just get a blank page where the video feed should be.

Any ideas as to the cause and more importantly, the cure? I am in Uk and school is in Thailand. School say everything is ok at their end.

    Cheers

Bloody hell, the thought of my parents watching me at school through cams would have frightened the life out of me.

Sorry though, can't help with your problem at all. Someone more tech minded will be along shortly..

the cams with builtin webservers that I am familiar with usually have an option to us either java or activeX for the video viewing part. - though they could be running the webserver on the computer and it maybe just java based video

a little bit more information is required

sequence of steps you do till it fails - ie , open webpage with address , enter username and password , click on camera icon etc

are you using explorer or firefox ?

have you tried another computer ?
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

    Hi,

Web page opens fine - then username and password entered, click on run java and the screen appears complete with sidebar giving choice of cameras etc.

However, in the middle where the feed should appear the box remains blank. Have clicked on various cameras but has no effect. No error messages so I know username/password ok. Using Vista, Explorer, Java 6.

Havent tried another computer as yet as cannot download in work.

There is a "Download AP" button which as yet I have not used. Would this relate to Active x?? The java download has been fine until this week.

not that experienced with the java stuff

can you right click on the Java icon in the task bar and choose open console - that should usually display messages including errors

Hi Baldrick & any java experts!

I uninstalled and then started again. Have the latest java update (15) but still have the same problem of a plain white square where the camera feed should be. Been on the java site but their help function is useless!
No error messages or red x's anywhere - just a white square.

Baldrick, See below for the messages on the console. Do they mean anything to you? Could be the cause but I havent a clue what they mean!!!

    Cheers

Downloaded AP - used admin/admin but message states log in procedure failed. Had my hopes up there!

You have to go in on my link, there are 16 cams, supposedly controllable.

Thanks Dirty Dog but your link gives the same white screen, whether I use the adnin or the normal username/password. Do you get anything different?

In the past, as soon as you log on, the screen defaults to a camera and then you pick and choose (it was never that successful in that it flitted from cam to cam of its own accord) Clicking on any cam or other button at the moment has no effect at all. I have checked in the past out of hours and you still get a dark view.So the fact that it is early Sat am isn't an issue

There security certificate has expired so you maybe blocking it yourself, best bet try another browser.

Here's a print screen of the cams, all seem to work ok, albeit its a bit dark in there at 4am in the morning.
