    Strange facebook experience

Today I clicked at Super Swans face book link but could not enter because I have no face book identity. The form I saw had Thai writing so I could not read it. I did not enter anything.

I then decided to register with face book and accessed a local german facebook page. Again I got a form in Thai language. Obviously they had placed some cookie on my PC and associated me with Thai.

Is it very ignorant on my part to be surprised?

Thanks, yes I had that on my page too and was able to change the language and register.

My problem is only why would it start with Thai when I access a german page from germany? It must have stored that information somewhere on my computer that I had accessed a thai site before and changed the default language accordingly.

Unless you are using a proxy server it is fairly easy to identify your source country from your IP address which is passed when you request a web page. Google does it, unless you tell it different it assumes you speak the language of your source country....

Yes I know. Sometimes annoying. Even if I chose the english Google I am diverted to the german site and have to chose english from there.

But here the opposite happened. I am in Germany and I chose the german facebook site and still got the Thai script.
