    iPod Battery Replacement

I have had my iPod Nano (1st Gen) for about 4 years now. It pisses me off that a new iPod Touch cost less than what I paid for this, but that's the price of progress.

The only thing that I'm not happy with is the battery life (oh, and the poor sound qualirt compared with its rivals). It's supposed to offer around 16 hours, but it has never given me more than half of that time. I suppose I should've returned it within a few days of buying it, but I never looked into the playback times until now.

The nearest Authorised Apple Centre is in Korat which is a few hours away, but there is a non-authorised place here in Udon.

    1. Should I risk these monkeys replacing the battery or should I buy a $10 battery off the internet and do it myself?

    2. Do Apple always blatantly lie about battery life? I see all their products boast excellent battery life, but I don't believe them.

I need to replace the battery on my gen1 pod too.
I think it pretty easy to do. They have a cheap special little plastic tool to help split the cover open without dinging it up.

I always allow the battery to drain completely before charging again.

^ what sort of battery ?

The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible.

The one that came with it.

All the manual says is (for the first time) charge for 3 hours or until the battery icon shows fully charged. Which I did.

    * I just noticed that my iPod came with an Apple sticker, which seems to be worth 20,000 Baht, so I might just sell that and buy an I-River.

Yeah, odd, eh? I guess a mod felt threatened, or had a penile envy moment.

Not my problem anymore -- Marmite has whatever information I was willing to impart, and if it makes mods feel 'oh so powerful' removing posts with valid useful information in them, well, som nam naa....

Yes, but are you charging for a FULL 12 hours?

Oh, how drol - my post was removed by one of the cretin mods, I gather.

Oh well, Marmite obviously read it, with whatever beneficial information there was in there for him. If the information is now gone, without any explanation why it was removed, I'm just chalking it up the usual cretinerie of illiterates.

i needed to look inside mine ( i-pod classic) regarding a non functioning wheel switch, (the round thing in the middle that controls it), i found a site on the net that described how to open it using toothpicks and little plastic thingys, it opened easy enough but 4 spring loaded bits flew out from inside when the 2 halves of the case came apart. took a long while to re assemble everything correctly.

eventually took it into the apple place in the emporium bangkok for a proper repair of the switch wheel mechanism, done in 3 days for 1500b.

i thought it was expensive, but it was cheaper than having to buy a new i-pod.

Fair enough I guess, it's your call of course, but the OP could also be interpreted as a swipe at Apple stuff. Battery conditioning is always recommended. :/

Okay, then - I guess you won't mind, then, when I will refrain on providing you technical support and information in the future - since you'll neither heed it, nor really appear to deserve it.

    To wit:

See, and that's what I mean -- despite people trying to educate you about battery conditioning (and you most likely being at fault for your battery's poor showing), you will persist in claiming you are right, because the manual says so.

Either way, another key factor to consider is that HEAT is the enemy of batteries - so if you kept your iPod in a hot place, chances are you contributed to its demise (and I'm certain you'll claim you never exposed it to heat - hint: It's pretty hot in Thailand).

Either way, you should buy a new battery at the link I provided in the post, which you claim had nothing to do with the OP, and which I won't repost.

I just bought the I pod classic 160GB great bit off kit. I also bought a JVC speaker docking station thing for around 3,000 baht but not very impressed with it. Anyone know how much in Thailand for the top of the line speaker system for the I pod ?

More expensive than in Oman I would guess. They usually have loads of overpriced stuff like speakers at airports, but you'll never get fantastic sound from little speakers.

A mate has a set of bowen or bow speakers with docking station, the sound is excellent. He paid 250 Omani rials ( 21,000baht) for them here in Oman. I would think Thailand would be cheaper than oman

Oh, okay, so this is all about covering up for yourself breaking the battery to begin with? Okay, then.

Thailand is usually expensive on luxury goods, because C & E charge high duties to protect all the super high quality stuff made in-country.

toss the iPod, they are worthless anyway, typical overpriced Apple gadgets have a lifespan of only 1 year
