Google Wave...Two thumbs up from me!

Has anyone else here tried Google Wave yet?

I was sent an invite by a client today because we have a design deadline of tomorrow morning, so we thought we'd test it out to see if it helped.

For anyone thats not heard of it, Google Wave is a tool that lets you conference in real time with any number of people where each of you can add text, picture files, movie files, google searches and probably other stuff. Each person in the conference can then comment on or edit each piece of information.

For what we were doing it was perfect. He's in Hua Hin, I'm in Bangkok, I'm designing his advertising for a magazine and he has a specific idea of what he wants.

So I was able to post up the work I'd already done, then he could comment on it, I'd go and change stuff and then post it again. We could discuss in real time (you can actually see the letters appear as the other person is typing) our ideas on what looked best and the whole thing was complete in no time.

Much simpler than constantly emailing each other which I find tedious. I was very impressed and will work with people in this way again. It's perfect for project work or if you have a team of people that you need to keep up to date with.

I'll post a few screen shots later.

Here's a utube vid that explains how to use it, the girl narrating sounds about 14 and is bloody annoying but its the simplest explanation that I could find.

You get 8 invites to give out when you join up and I've got 3 left which I'll give out to the first pms that I get. You'll need to send me your email address and if you don't have a gmail account then you'll be prompted to create one.

I'm gradually getting enmeshed into a world of Google, I use either Chrome or Firefox as a web browser, gmail for mail, scetchup, picasso, google maps, the search engine, google sites, Utube, google documents...

The operating system is becoming increasingly irrelevant, a lot of my personal data is in the cloud. I hate becoming so dependent on one source though once their operating system comes out Micro$oft will be really struggling

I'm downloading a program called Waveboard right now which is for Mac and iPhone.

Not sure what it does yet so I'll get back on this one.

Waveboard – Google Wave Client for iPhone and Mac

Here's a screen shot. It looks a lot like google. Down the right hand side you've got your work panel or 'Wave' I suppose is the real name. This is just a welcome 'wave' I just got from 'Dr Wave'. He's embedded a you tube vid to explain how to use everything.

I work with Google Documents in tandem with MSN/Skype. I'll have to give this wave a try as it seems to encompass the two.

Never tried adding documents with skype, maybe you can. Problem I'd have with skype though is that once your mates and family see you online they'd all be contacting you for a chat and I'd get no work done.

I've sent it to your hotmail account so either create a google account or sign in through gmail if you have one.

Thats the last two invites gone to Filch and SunTzu. Any one else who want one will have to ask them nicely.

As you suggested, I'll also keep 3 invites for other TD members : just mention your interest down below.
(I just need to figure out how it works first ! )

    Keep it up !

Yes can send files and pictures too.
With Skype you can either chat or talk.

Regarding the last bit, have two accounts, one for work and one for social/family

The best bet is to invite yourself on 3 different emails, then you got a spare 24 invites.
