Has anyone else here tried Google Wave yet?
I was sent an invite by a client today because we have a design deadline of tomorrow morning, so we thought we'd test it out to see if it helped.
For anyone thats not heard of it, Google Wave is a tool that lets you conference in real time with any number of people where each of you can add text, picture files, movie files, google searches and probably other stuff. Each person in the conference can then comment on or edit each piece of information.
For what we were doing it was perfect. He's in Hua Hin, I'm in Bangkok, I'm designing his advertising for a magazine and he has a specific idea of what he wants.
So I was able to post up the work I'd already done, then he could comment on it, I'd go and change stuff and then post it again. We could discuss in real time (you can actually see the letters appear as the other person is typing) our ideas on what looked best and the whole thing was complete in no time.
Much simpler than constantly emailing each other which I find tedious. I was very impressed and will work with people in this way again. It's perfect for project work or if you have a team of people that you need to keep up to date with.
I'll post a few screen shots later.
Here's a utube vid that explains how to use it, the girl narrating sounds about 14 and is bloody annoying but its the simplest explanation that I could find.
You get 8 invites to give out when you join up and I've got 3 left which I'll give out to the first pms that I get. You'll need to send me your email address and if you don't have a gmail account then you'll be prompted to create one.
