A lot of my early YouTube videos have suddenly all reduced in quality, in fact they are barely watchable. The quality was never to the standard of a YouTube official movie trailer to begin with but it was watchable.

As my internet is so rubbish at my place I've popped over the road to an internet cafe which I had been told was a lot faster - so I'm uploading one of said videos to Facebook and was going to re-upload to YouTube.

It started out promising - I had almost 2 centimeters of blue bar within five minutes but it's gone from REMAINING TIME 22 MINUTES to 1 HOUR 43 MINUTES (AND CLIMBING) within twenty minutes.

I was going to start uploading the YouTube one also but I guess this will make the first upload even slower - or won't it make a difference?

It is also 17:45pm - could this be a factor, that it is peak hour? ...If so what time should I return tomorrow and try again?

Daffy, if you are watching - I do recall you commenting once on my quality (the quality that I was originally satisfied with) - and if you are still willing to explain how I can re-compress to get near perfect quality I am ready to listen.

I currently compress to H.264, the compression rate I hope you suggest will no doubt be an option on my compression settings but is that going to take even longer?

Remaining time is now at 2 hours, I can't sit here that long.

iMovie's '09 edition has YouTube and FaceBook export built in, and does a fantastic job at it.

iMovie '09 requires an intel processor. Upgrade your Mac.

The reason why your upload keeps taking longer and longer is because the internet café, or your connection, are either dropping speed, or are having some serious noise on the line causing interrupted transfers.

I use i-movie HD (06) but I'm not uploading from that anyway, I compress the finished movie in H264 Quicktime, so the file size to be uploaded is only 124.9 MB, well within the size limit.

When I lived out in the sticks I had better internet and the same movie would take less than 20 minutes to upload and the duration time would decrease.

So why is it increasing?

Several possibilities:

- Upgrade your Mac to something with an intel processor. I hear Butterfly has a Mac mini he wants to get rid of, and it would be the ideal machine. You can then run Snow Leopard, and iLife'09, with iMovie'09 doing what you need it to do. It's worthwhile investment.

- Upload your raw files to one of my servers, and I'll re-compress it for you, and you can then grab it from my server again. Of course, if your problem is with the network connection being problematic, then that won't help you much.

- As Slackula suggested, find a locale with better and more reliable connectivity (any TRUE Wifi hotspot could work, and you can buy a monthly subscription for $25), and upload from there with your Mac.

That's very kind Daff, but I think first I need to try what Sakula suggested, and - dare I say it, bkkmadness is probably right also. It is only a recent problem, my Mac is more than capable of uploading videos and has done it many times before.

The internet here is shit, I would go to the Soi 8 pub for lunch and use their free WIFI but I was recently ejected from there for opening a door to quickly so I'm not going back there again and I'm not going to tell anyone how good the food is anymore.

I think my internet is currently free, so I will have to fork out some extra dosh or have coffee at the Sheraton Sukhumvit or something.
