Question Will my laptop give me notice before it dies?

My MacBook Pro will be four next May, I have all my movies backed up on hard drives, 2 out of 3 are fucked, if you don't believe me ask Baldrick - although, nevermind, my hard drives ain't the fucking point.

Are there any warning signs or will it one day just die and be dead or should I get a new one while I still have the chance?

...And are they cheaper in Japan?

Yes it will send you an email.
Check your registered email with Mac is up to date.
Sometimes they get lost in the spam filter so make sure you check in there everyday.
You should get a weeks warning which allows you enough time to buy a new one and transfer all your files.

I was never able to sort out my Mac Mail, but I don't need it because I have Hotmail.

Why would they be cheaper in Japan?

Do you ever actually ask yourself these questions before you flatulate them onto the board?

They are cheapest in the USA.

actually they are about the same price everywhere, global pricing policy of Apple

you might save a bit by buying in Singapore, cheaper by 50 USD from the US

Wrong - the US store has the Apple Refurb Store, which regularly has items at significant savings (and, often, current models, once such models have been out for 2-3 months). Refurb items carry the same warranty and are indistinguishable from 'regular' items - you just get to save between $200-$600 on what you buy. I saved over $600 on my MacBook Pro (2.8GHz unibody model for $1,699).

Some European store also have Refurb moments, but these are 'special events' (notably France). The US Apple Store has the refurb units on a 24 hour basis, albeit inventory is first come, first server (but replenishes daily as well).

Refurb for France, Switzerland and Belgium are also open on a 24 hour basis, but you'll not find a big choice at any moment. Refurb Apple : MacBook, iPod, iMac, Mac Pro, iPhone - Produits reconditionnés The offer should be much bigger for the next months following yesterday's Apple products uptade.

New iMacs, MacBook, Mac mini,Mac mini Server, Magic Mouse.

    (rolls eyes)

The refurbished store is stocked mostly by items with damaged packaging (i.e. not damaged contents), as Apple has a zero defects packaging policy. So, instead of a shiny colorful packaging, you get a simple white cardboard box - the contents has been carefully refurbished and repackaged and tested, and comes with the same Apple warranty as a'new' items. You can save on average $200 - $600 on items you purchase that way. More if you wait and seek out the right item.

well we were assuming new price here, if we are talking "second hand" it's a new ballgame. You do know that Refurb are not factory new, don't you?

more like defects or what we called at Apple "standard exchange", basically machine under warranty that quacked and had to be exchanged and then were fixed to be sold as "refurb".

Bullshit. Stop drinking the kool-aid. You have no clue as usual how Apple works. These are not damaged packaging, you don't discount 30% for damaged packaging, what kind of stupid business do that ? not even Apple. These are machines that were "lemon" or defectives, couldn't be fixed in an acceptable given period for clients or defects couldn't be fixed at the repair center level, and therefore were returned to factory for overall test and fixing. Sometimes those components were from broken clients, and are "refurbed" after being taken apart and fixed. Basically "lemons" fixed. You are a complete tard.

It's quite amazing how incredibly accurate you are in being consistently wrong -- particularly you making this assumptive statement without knowing what I do for a living or who I work for.

You are good for the occasional laughs, though. I can see why TD keeps you around.

I bought an iPod refurb from the UK store about 3(?) years ago. Its still going strong while a few mates have bought new ones that died a death after about 2 years. I wouldnt by a new Mac unless I won a load of cash, Id just go for the refurbs.

    Always warning signs. These include:

A loud grinding noise as the HD eats itself up.
    Strange patterns on the monitor.
    Blank screen.
    Aroma of burning electrical components.
    Billowing smoke.
    Electrical sparks.
And finally, the most fatal warning; Message on the screen "Contact Apple customer assistance."

working for an Apple Dealership in a call center or at the repair shop doesn't really qualify you as being on expert how Apple works. Again, as usual, you have no clue. And 3 posts ago you were promoting refurbs as damaged packaging, with anyone with a brain cell could tell it was bull (but you being American, no surprise here).

Why don't you upgrade your brain with the last MacOSX patch ?
