    Acer Iconia

Does anyone recommend the Acer brand for tablets? I'm considering the Iconia A500 for my daughter. Has anyone had hands on experience w/ the Acer line of tabs? I had an iMobile before- and it's complete crap. I wanted to throw it at the wall. If the Acer is anything like that...

Absolute crap like imobile, I would never buy anything else with the name acer on it. Might as well buy a cheap made in china tablet, as that's all they are with the acer logo on.

I wouldn't buy Acer either. But they are not a crap brand; they have been steadily improving over the last few years and are considered a decent mid-level brand. For the right price it would be a good tablet to buy.

The Google Nexus 7 is cheap and very good - if you can get one (usually from the Google store online).

It's an old tablet, so should be very very cheap... Outclassed by today's standards - if you can get a newer tablet for similar money then you probably should, imho.

    Verdict
The Acer Iconia Tab A500 ultimately beat the BlackBerry PlayBook, which still has an app problem and is smaller for viewing videos and pictures. The Motorola Xoom is a hair better because of its trendier design.
Overall, the Iconia Tab A500 is a very good tablet that falls out of the running quickly compared to the Apple iPad 2 with its boatload of apps, video chatting, games and superior media handling.

But that was 2 and a half years ago - things have moved on from them and prices can be low for some new bits of kit...

For 200 pounds a Nexus 7 cannot be beat.

^very true, Baldrink. One of the reasons I wouldn't get one, but having said that, I have 32gb memory on me phone (I just have a 16gb mSD card) and despite filling it with loads and loads, still have 13gb of free space. I'd like a bit more on a tablet as you may store more vids and office docs, but a 32gb tablet should see 95% of folks ok.

Samsung tablets are expensive. For 250 UK squids the new LG tablet is a nice device with SD card.
