    1. Most of the time the files will play without 'fixing'.

    2. TMPGEnc will fix/recode AVI files.

try running it through G SPOT and then play it.
G spot ( free download ) checks it for codecs and replaces any that are damaged or missing.

    Thanks.
    That is rather nifty.
Appears that the file is truncated which makes more sense than everything else which tells me that it is a codec problem.

it's very rare to have to go looking for codecs with vlc.

    try another player.

have you upgrade to VLC 9.02 yet?

i do sometimes get that message with NAPSY torrents.

they will play in totem media player though.

about the only reason not to delete totem from my applications.

DivFix++ is another program (freeware from sourceforge) which is good at repairing avi and divx files where the frame index is corrupted or missing.
Frame index error is usually the reason for players not accepting the avi/divx file.

I have now got the lastest version of VLC
I don't get the error message now but it still won't play the movie.
Plays the titles and then stops

Thanks, I will keep that one, nice and easy to use.

It has repaired the movie but the results are so bad that it is not really watchable.
I think the file must have got damaged during download
