    Adobe Security Scare

Working for an American Multi-national received this in my mail this morning, hope it is of use to you all. Please treat it as genuine:-

xxxx Global Security has issued an alert regarding critical security vulnerabilities with Adobe Reader and Acrobat software. This is a simple but potent vulnerability that can be exploited on a system by simply opening a malicious PDF file. Until Adobe software patches are successfully deployed throughout xxxx, employees should only open business-essential PDFs from trusted sources. This alert will remain in effect until March 25, 2009.

Adobe will be releasing patches for Adobe Reader and Acrobat to resolve this security issue within the next two weeks. Adobe expects to make available an update for Adobe Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 by March 11, and updates for Adobe Reader 7 and 8, by March 18. Note: As a reminder, Adobe Reader and Acrobat versions prior to 7 are not supported by Adobe and will not be patched

^ That's all very well, but what if you need to make PDFs rather than just read them?

watch out for those excel files also - the exploit that is being used at the moment will not be patched on Tuesday.

but if you use open office calc to open the files you will be ok
