    Help with TOT ASDL connection vs PI E-mail address

    Hi all,

    We got ourselves an ASDL connection from TOT a few weeks back. Basically received a modem, some wires and a small booklet telling me how to connect up the hardware, as well as register with TOT to enable broadband surfing.

    After a bit of mucking about (the booklet was pretty close to useless) I managed to get the system going. Works great, can skype, video-conference with buddies and family back home etc.

    HOWEVER: I am completely unable to access my pacific internet e-mails using OE (yeah, I know I am old-fashioned, but I happen to like it). Gmail is received - no problem, but my main e-mail address is inaccessible.

    I tried calling Pacific Internet, but they were not familiar with tot's setup (probably a competitor)

    Next I tried to call TOT, but after half an our of bullshit, I realised the guy at the other end was bluffing (trying to avoid loss of face?) and know less about this than I do.

    Surely there must be other people out there who have had a similar problem? I suspect it has something to do with the POP3 and SMTP servers (whatever they may be, but in the past this has been where the problem usually is).

    The TOT guy claimed TOT did not have a server? Is that even possible?

    Come on guys and girls, please help me out. I promise to be very generous with the greenies for helpful replies. And I will "red" any post I do not find either informative or at the very least amusing.

    WS

    And just to save bandwidth - Changing e-mail address or switching e-mail reader is out of the question.
    Any error in tact, fact or spelling is purely due to transmissional errors...

    POP3 servers are usually accessible from anywhere so you should be able to pull your emails. Can you ?

    SMTP servers are usually only accessible within the ISP's own net, this to reduce the risc of them beeing used for spamming.
    So you must setup TOT's SMTP server for outgoing mail.

    Try any of these:

    SMTP = totadsl.th.com
    SMTP = 203.151.141.222
    SMTP = smtp5.totonline.net
    SMTP = tot.pacific.net.th
    SMTP = smtp.pacific.net.th

    Just did, but no sucess.

    Appreciate the feedback, though lom. Any other suggestions, short of driving down to TOT HQ and kicking the shit out of the helpdesk operator?

    The server responded with an error. Account: 'Pacific Internet Thailand', Server: 'po.pacific.net.th', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

    Well, there is one problem with TOT - they are not a real ISP,
    they buy that service from other Thai ISP's.

    The name of your package usually tells which ISP you are on, otherwise
    you can find out by checking your IP-address and traceroute it to see
    whom it belongs to. And then it's easy to find your SMTP server.

    I still don't understand that you can't get to the PI POP3 server, I can access all of my swedish ISP's POP3 from here and I've never before heard of restrictions on POP3 access.
    And it is less likely that TOT blocks that , I would rather believe that PI by some strange reason doesn't allow access from outside nets..

    Try to use mail.pacific.net.th as your POP3

    Btw, Whiteshiva, do you pay for PI to be your "post office" ?
    What type of account do you have there ?

    If they were your past ISP and you now have changed to TOT, then there is no reason for them to service you and that may be the reason for you not getting access there.

    About a year-and-a-half ago I had a guy that had email at a competing ISP he got ADSL through TOT. Be perfectly honest, I have forgotten most fo the details. But I remember that we found out they did not allow access to the mail (POP) server on his original ISP. I didn't believe it. I tried hooking him up but they had blocked it. He was able to get his mail using webmail, this may be your only option. Not sure what (or where) pacific internet is; if it's a competitor ISP-wise...

    I can only add that I use OE for all my emails, but I only connect to Hotmail and Gmail. I used Pacific Internet dial-up in the past, no problems. I then went to TOT 512/256 ADSL, no problems either. I am now on TT&T 512/256 ADSL, no problems.

    I have never had a Pacific Internet email account.

    Pacific seems to block POP requests that are not from their IP network. Yes I saw this before in the good old days. Didn't know there were still ISP stupid enough to do it again these days. Time to change email address. You are fucked. PI is a lame ISP anyhow.

    Just called PI (again) and they denied blocking POP requests, and rightly so - they'd be daft to do so. Will screw around further tomorrow - out on the piss tonight - first time in a while, so should be a good one!

    Appreciate the feedback, guys!

    Give them a kick from me as well. I'm sure the ISP's here are rotating those jerks between them , CSLox and TT&T customer support doesn't know a shit either..

    Here is a list of ISP's used by TOT for their different packages:

    Supercyber, Silvercyber = KSC (www.ksc.co.th) or Pacific Internet (www.pacific.net.th)

    Goldcyber = HiNet (CAT)

    Goldbiz, Platinumbiz, Diamondbiz, Premiumbiz = Internet Thailand (www.inet.co.th)

    And here is a useful link for finding out servers for the different ISP's:

    http://www.phuket-data-wizards.com/en/adsl.php

    Now you should be able to find out which ISP you have. If you can't identify it from my list above, then you should be able to do it by comparing the IP address of the DNS server you are using with the DNS servers listed by ISP's in the link above.

    That will give you the SMTP server to use for outgoing emails.
    If it still fails, try to use ji-net's smtp server , it might be open for access..

    Your incoming mail (POP3) is still a mystery for me.
    I can access PI's POP3 servers from my TT&T ADSL but can of course not check if it's fully functional since I don't have any account by them.
    Can't login there..

    Therefore, once again, are you sure you still have an account with them ?
    If you cancelled a previous agreement with them when you changed to TOT then you won't be able to use them for incoming mail and that would explain your problems.

    it's also possible they nuked your email account when you moved out but then the error message from OE would have been differernt (invalid login or password)
