How much for a web site

Just a tentative inquiry as I've got no idea.

What would I expect to pay for a simple website say 10 pages plus regular maintenance for say a year?

All depends what you want it to do. Information only, sell stuff etc.

Well the idea would be for people to pay a nominal fee to access the content inside which would be video.

NO it's not porn but might work in a similar way as I'm told the porn sites work.

The payment processor could end up being more expensive than the site. You can use something www.paypal.com to process payments which will let people pay either by their Paypal balance or credit card but the credit card payment isnt that visible and easy for people to work out. Then you have places like WorldPay - Internet Payment Solutions for Credit and Debit Card Processing by the World's Leading Payment Service Provider. not as easy to get running straight the way like Paypal but its a lot easir for people to pay by CC. Had a friend who used Worldpay and had a lot of issues.

Also you can outsource it to India for a quarter of the cost....a mate did this and his site had this constant bollywood music in the background he could not get rid of though.

JJ: there are at least three TD members involved in various aspects of website design and development...

one thing they will all tell you is that you will need more than you realise now so you will save yourself a lot of grief and money if you listen to what they have to say from the outset...

remember these guys are members here so are not about to rip you off...

MtD for the simple sites...FriscoFrankie for the techie bits and MediaMan for the data base stuff...

JJ, I can vouch for one of the above. Frisco Frankie has built me two lovely and wonderful sites. They are very detailed with a lot of searches and special things that I wanted on them. He has always been available on Skype, chat, email, phone and person for me all the way.

Sometimes I know I am a pain the butt to him with all my questions and concerns, but he never seems to mind and is always quick to give me a helping hand.

I went with FF, because they are a lot of intricate aspects to my site that I needed customized. He writes the code to match what you want rather than use a template site.

Do what he says and you can make some $$ or pounds for you right?

In less than a year I am, already on page 1, 2 and 3 of Google following his advice on how to get in the top rankings. I have made money enough to cover the cost of the building of the site, the monthly tech support fee, hosting fee and also put a nice bit of cash in my pocket.

I am projecting a VERY nice monthly cash flow from the site first site he built in the next year to 18 months.

The second site was finished not too long ago, and I need to put my nose to the grindstone with it real soon.

It is not just build a site and the money rolls in. It takes time and marketing. Having a guy you can count on means the world.

    FF won't accept Rupees.

My Bangkok Day Tours site I did myself but FF did the booking pages for me...whilst he was at it he 'tidied up' some of the rubbish caused by me using "Dreamweaver"...for which I am grateful...

Frankie does keep interesting hours but has always answered email queries the same day which is what you need...

My BDT website is hosted on TDs server and Xycte is also excellent in terms of service...again he works whilst most of us are sleeping but always answers an email or SMS within the same day...

Believe me JJ you will need this once you get started as things don't always 'work' as you anticipated...

Best thing is that these guys don't mind if you ask all the dumb questions as long as you learn from their answers...tis a great 'family' here on TD....

The key aspect to any website is optimisation (SEO). This is the fun part which decides whether your site ends up on page 1 or page 100 of the major search engines. Just about anyone with average IQ can build a website, but the optimisation takes rather more skill.
