    WIFI receiver through USB?

I have T.O.T at my house, so i have the line in connected to the modem then the LAN cable going to the wireless router. Now the wireless router only has 1 socket, which is used from the modem.
Not a problem because i have a laptop, but my old-ish PC doesn't have wireless! So what is the fix?? a usb wifi reciever?? are they any good?? what spped?? cost?? any thoughts and idea's welcome.

    Cheers

I use a USB wireless adaptor.

The speed is fine but the range is limited if there are walls in the way.
What range do you need ?

Great timing, I need to know about this as well. I've just moved into a house on a new estate and have no idea when we will be able to sign up for internet.

My wife keeps talking about 'air cards' but I've never heard of them. She says its a usb device that allows you to get broardband where ever you are. Is this correct?

She phoned up True and they said they do one for 2,500bt a month so I said shuv it! Then she found a shop in Ekkamai Plaza called BBN (or something, nothing to do with Blackberry) that does a 4mb card for 590bt a month.

Does anyone know if they really work anywhere?

At the moment I'm just 'tethering' my blackberry and only getting speeds of a few hundred kb's, though I did just download last weks southpark pretty quick.

I use one mate, its great. Can use anywhere, literally, out in the jungles, in a moving vehicle, even out on the islands. Speed is a little slower. but can still post and watch porn videos all at the same time.

Was just wondering why it didnt have a lan port as well, google tells me the 1150 is infact a wifi acces point, hence no lan port.

    D-Link Wireless G Access Point

just buy a 400-500 baht switch - modem LAN to switch , access point to switch , and computer to switch

you can have problems with both the modem and the access point running DHCP servers.

Thats what I'm doing right now but it only gives about 200kbs. Not enough to down load and its too slow uploading websites using ftp. I need something quicker.

How do I find out if my area has it?

I'm 10K's up Sathorn Road on the Kanchanaphisek Junction near Bang Bon. We should have it surely, its 2010.

    Cool aircard

had no option but to get one of these since we went jungle rural Sa Kaeo
paid 1600 for an Edge aircard and 650 per month on prepay for unlimited usage though AIS/12call
service is often slow but at the price I'll live with it; fine for text, can be v slow for youtube etc
12call chosen as we are out of range for Truemove mobiles, but my ph works fine here

I use an old DoDo modem Huawei Brand I brought in Oz, wife arranged with phone shop to connect my Thai Sim to the net ,got home put Sim in Modem and it worked!!

Air Card is just that, a Modem. some are locked to the Provider like Telstra [Oz] but the DoDo one was open,
I'd been using Dial up in the Boonie since moving up country, now have prepaid wireless!

you might be able to get Hutch - as for its CDMA network , not sure if it does EVDO

and as for UTMS , I think it is 850Mhz stuff in and around some central bangkok shopping emporiums and a trial in chaing Mai also - thailands comms authority is yet to licence the 2100Mhz bands so you are probably going to be limited to EDGE.
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.
