    AVG8 screwing with Firefox

I've just updated from AVG 7 to AVG 8. Now Firefox gives me an error of "Looking Up" whenever I try to load a page.

    IE 6 still works though.

I have exited AVG and Firefox still won't work. I suppose I'll try removing AVG forst to see if that makes any diference. If that doesn't work, I'll have to try reinstalling firefox.

There is an option it it to turn of web link scanning or something like that.

Do that and it should sort it.

    It's fucking rubbish AVG8.

I will most likely be dumping it .

I turned the wole thing off and it didn't make any difference. I've reinstalled FF, and it was still the same.

I just fired up FF again and it appears to be working now. Very fekkin' strange. Could it be True monkeys fucking things up?

I upgraded to AVG8 couple of days ago and no problems at all.

guess you need to know what you are doing.

I dumped AVG when they stopped supporting my free edition - just needed a nudge because it slowed down my pc when it was doing it's daily scan. I now use Avast and, so far, all seems well.

Been having the same troubles but hadn't thought of blaming AVG; I just assumed it was one of the extensions I updated. I ended up installing the Opera browser and have been running that for the last few days.

I think I might just bin AVG and go back to the Fox. I have Avira installed and it seems to be running nice and unobtrusively in the background and does a more thorough scan. (Popular with the Lifehacker readers too.)

Have been using AVG v8 since it came out, I use nothing but ff for a browser, no problems at all. True does have a reputation of diddling with the dns servers all the time - flocking idjiots -

When they aren't fukking with it True is OK. Course I'm less than 100 meters from the central office switch.

I found it strange that IE was working, but FF wasn't.

Uninstalled AVG8, and oh boy! It really didn't want to go. It shut down Zone Alarm, Avira and ThreatFire, crashed FF and then I couldn't reboot (I assume some unknown process was running in the background killing off AVG processes).

After a mild panic attack, I realised that AVG wasn't the cause of my problems after all; FF is still really clunky and slow and keeps crashing. Coupled with an internet connection that keeps cutting out I'm going berserk.

On a ship in the Med at the moment and our IT weenies on shore aren't game to come out to the boat any more - the delicate petals are a bit upset at some of the abuse which is being heaped on them. Oh well, home next week.

try Avast from Alwil software. same as AVG and NOD it comes from Czech Republic, its free for personal use and they keep it updated every day, so your virus database is always up do date.

^ I found Avast to be a bit bloated when I last used it. THen AVG 8.0 came out.

I might give Commodos Antivirus a run and see what happens

I was using AVG8 up until yesterday.
It works fine but all the extra features just seemed intrusive and slow.

    I have changed to NOD32
