    Java Script must be enabled?

What am I doing wrong? I've tried to look at the hotel booking site asiarooms.com and get a message that I need to enable Java Script. I have checked the options in Firefox and the checkbox shows that Java is enabled (?) Also tried Internet Explorer and get the same result. Any ideas out there? Thanks!

Java & JavaScript are NOT the same.
Two different animals with similar names.
Enabling Java will not help JavaScript.

Sorry for the late reply. I have checked Firefox Tools-Options and Java and Javascript check boxes are both ticked but I still have problems. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

There's an add-on called No script which you can download from Firefox add ons. It will sit at the bottom of the scree and you will be able to control that function per web site. Also in tools> options> content, make sure enable Java is cheked as well as enable Javascript.

Thanks for the tip Mello . I have added the No Script add-on and then tried to look at asiarooms.com. It shows the full page with graphics etc for about 2 seconds and then reverts back to the screen asking me to enable Java/Javascript and refresh the browser. I've also tried to toggle the "Allow Global Scripts" function using the icon in the system tray but still with no results(?!). Both Java and Javascript check boxes are enabled in Tools- Options-Content of the Firefox browser. It's weird as I have only had this problem with the asiarooms site. I know it is probably easier to find what I need through another hotel booking site but this has got me puzzled/pissed off

    Many thanks for help offered!

    Marmite, sorry for the confusion:

    Please activate scripting
Javascript must be enabled before you continue.
To enable scripting, you need to make a simple adjustment to your browser setting.

After you have enabled javascript refresh this page.

Done all of the above but still get the same problem.

    Have you done this?

Go to the Internet Options and the last tab (Advanced) I think.
    Click on "Reset all settings".
    Restart your computer.

Are you up to date with the XP updates?

    Have you tried reinstalling Firefox?

Enable JavaScript in Microsoft Internet Exlorer
    1. Click the Start button, select Programs or All Programs, then click Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
    3. Click the Internet icon, then click the Custom Level button.
    4. In the Scripting section, under Active Scripting, click the Enable option.
    5. Click the OK button and OK again.
Also, what level is your internet security set at? Try (temporarily) setting it to LOW and see if that makes a difference.

    from http://mozillazine.org/javascript
Many web pages require JavaScript to work properly. To make sure that JavaScript is enabled, check these settings:
    • Firefox: "Tools -> Options -> Content -> Enable JavaScript".
    • Mozilla Suite/SeaMonkey: "Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Scripts & Plug-ins -> Enable JavaScript for -> Navigator" (JavaScript is disabled by default for the "Mail & Newsgroups" component , for security reasons.)
If you have enabled JavaScript but it isn't working, make sure that JavaScript isn't being blocked by an extension like NoScript. Firewall programs or other security software can also include options that block JavaScript, such as the "Mobile Code Control" settings in ZoneAlarm Pro [1])
The no script add-on is designed to switch off/on scripting support. Adding addons will not cure your problem add only add to the confusion. If Javascript is enabled in your browser and the site isn't being blocked from loading scripts you may want to check out the above article.

forget abut "Java" for now. They are in no way related.

Have you tried loading the site in IE? does it work? What are your internet security settings? what security suite are you running? There might be some Windows freaks here that can help given that information.

he's got javascript enabled onthe browser I think it might be a personal firewall setting. What do I need one of those for? I would have to have the thig in front of me to help with that.

Disabled Norton, works fine now. I will try and add the site to trusted list or something in Norton prefs. Cheers!

A better solution would be to uninstall Norton altogether and use a firewall that's not so greedy with your resources. Trust me, your computer will thank you for it later.

I have Free AVG installed on all of my PCs. I'm happy with it.

    Norton sucks.

Thanks for the tips. I will be looking to install new virus software as the Norton subscription runs out towards the end of March (paid for 2 years worth! , .... don't even ask me what I was thinking when I ordered it ).
    Thanks again.
