A shop to connect my laptop to 1 2 call?

Next time I am in Bkk I want to be able to turn up to a shop with my Laptop, phone and wallet and say "connect me up scotty."

The laptop is a mac so perhaps someone who has actually seen one before.

Has to be 1 2 call as that is all that works in the village.

    Any ideas?

you can get an AIS simcard that will allow you to connect through bluetooth anywhere you can get a signal.

The gf usess it and the speed is ok. Quite a bit faster than dial-up anyway.

I think you can get 30 hours for 100baht and unlimited hours for 600baht?

Thanks for your reply Z but AIS ain't really 1 2 call

The price looks dirt cheap though.

Is your gf on a mac as well? Was it easy to set up? I here so many horror stories of people spending hours trying to get connected for the first time. I just want to find someone who will do it for me before I head to the village where no one would have a clue in helping me.

not a bad speed and definitely better than dial up.

gf uses a shite acer but i use my mac.

it's very straight forward to set up the bluetooth connection.

pop in the sim, switch on bluetooth on the phone. go to network in system preferences...click bluetooth....click find device....click confirm and enter the number that pops up.

The One-2-Call simcard for GPRS used to be called "Netsim" this gave you 40 hours a month free providing you topped up with just 300 baht once per month. I think the unlimited offer was 999 beht per month. It might have changed now though. I just had a quick look at their website, but its as pathetic as ever so no usuable info as usual on there.
Fist thing to do is create a connection via bluetooth to the phone. then try adding a service to tranfer photos from the phone to the laptop.
After that is working you need to buy the sim, then call the helpline on 1175 and tell them you want to set up "mobile life, gprs" , give them the model number of your phone and they will send an sms to you that installs the settings for gprs. Then you should be able to access the internet though the phone itself using its own browser. Once this is possible (and only then) you should create another service on the laptop "dial up networking via bluetooth' (might be called something different on mac- no idea, i dont use 'em much) that service will require the dial up number for ais which is "*99***1#"

At this point you should be able to connect But dont bank on it

    No it isn't.

My standard 1-2-Call card worked fine following Spin's advice.

    Now I'm confused.

This is why I just want to find a place to hand over phone and laptop and wait five minutes while they do it for me.

cool, but make sure you keep an eye on your account balance if you have a scratch card top up SIM card. you might be paying 1 baht per minute or 1 baht per kb or something like that. if you just use the phone it can be quite cheap, but if you connect to a laptop, where the downloaded data is increased, it can can quite expensive.
It can be better to get a dedicated SIM for gprs, works out much cheaper.

not sure about 1 2 call memock but up here I had to go to the main d tac shop in the airport plaza to register my account.

quite certain they would have set it all up for me if it was a laptop connection.

sure if she goes to any of the main 12 call shops they'll sort her out.

Thanks CMN, so do they actually have shops just dedicated to 1 2 call?

Actually I just heard that DTAC now works in the village as well. Which one would be better I wonder?

I don't know, but I have been pleasantly surprised with the connections I'm getting from dtac.

for the purposes of just surfing/posting it is more than adequate.

I might even forego my elaborate adsl connection plan and wait it out till i get my own line.

DTAC and 12call are the same to me, I mean quality of service. DTAC is cheaper than 12call for the internet package thingy and you don't need any special SIM card for internet because it's not exist.

But for connect with MAC, I have no idea but I think it should be as easy as connect to normal PC.
