Had to change the ports on the server mail as maxnet were throttling those ports, ie they were so throttled 9 out of 10 times you would time out on log in 10 out of 10 times "send" would time out

P2P works by allowing you to connect to other computers and other computers to connect to you. If you do not forward any ports, then you lose peers that are trying to connect to you, limiting the number of peers you will get. If no one in the P2P network forwarded any ports, then no one would be able to connect to anyone else.

UPnP allows for automatic opening and closing of ports by a program.

Hope that isn't gobbledygook for you CMn.

If anyone disagrees then please correct me.
Thanks for so much info...does this mean because I am using a router I can disable my firewall (ZoneAlarm)?

First off I only have very modest knowledge of this shit, where is Lom when u need him, isn't he the guru?

Your personal firewall Zalarm should be configured to allow incoming connections per application/program just as you would for your browser, email, ftp, irc, msn etc etc.
It is a software firewall as opposed to the router firewall which blocks ports.
Port forwarding to your static ip punches a hole through that router firewall.

As before please correct me if this is wrong.

    Keda..not recommended.
