Windows 11 what are the pros and cons please, any advice welcome

Probably need to get a new lightweight ultra portable laptop or "netbook" for travel
I have ipAd and tablet/phone but like to hve a proper little wndows machine with HDMI and at min 2 slots USB for wifi mouse, and large external SSD drive

I see most new machines in our local Mall and online have 11 home pre installed.
    Older stock still 10
Is 11 good, necessary and compatible with existing extensions, VPNs etc

I am mid level IT literate but I realize many here have more knowledge

If there is a machine you would recommend under 500 sterling $600 20k baht

I am not a gamer and use my smart tv for videos audio Utube Streaming and Netflix so audio and speed not prioriyes

Ideal would be ultra light weight 12 inch screen with Wndows Pro pre instaled

All suggestions grtefully received , witty pisstakes will be taken with alacrity

I am IT illiterate. Just bought a new HP computer and it comes with Windows 11. HP online, its bigger though 15.6. Hell of a sale going on. Under your price point. Shoot a pm if you want.

Not Pro but but Home version. I am not a gamer, and cant wait for 8:15 tomorrow morning to hook it up to my 55 inch TV and watch the 49er game. A thousand times better than the 6 year old HP I had before.

    Kid's got a W10 machine hooked up to a FHD 55 inch.
We've got a W11 machine hooked up to a 65 inch UHD tv as a main media center.
And a W10 machine with normal monitor that Edith uses for WFH/office stuff.

W11 is cleaner looking, has some nice touches, but no major difference than W10. Would go for W11.

Laptop, I'd look here at invadeit. Run well by 2 Danish professionals for years.

Laptops, Notebooks, Cheap Laptops, Acer Notebooks, Dell Laptops, Laptop Thailand, HP Laptop, Notebook Computers Thailand - invadeIT

    20k price point starts there.

Here is what you need. Check it out and then buy off of Lazada from their shop.

I believe you can order a keyboard for about 2,500 baht more. But seems right up your alley. I use their phones, and now am using one of their fitness bands. Also their air purifier. Good products all.

What about a Microsoft Surface? I think you can get a basic model for not much money. It's basically a tablet with windows on it.

Or even a Samsung tablet with DEX on it? I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard and use mine as a laptop when I travel. What's your use case for a laptop? If I wasn't required to have one for work, I'd use a Samsung tablet with DEX hooked up to an external monitor.

With wanting two USB ports and a HDMI on a small laptop I'd just find a brand name that has them. Nothing much between 10 and 11.

There are connectors you can but that can increase your usb connections though.

They're also about to release their first car.

The price equiv in Thai baht: 500k.

The 1m baht model has a 0-100kph of 2.7 seconds.

For the size and weight, there is the Microsoft surface, but I feel they are expensive. Though in the western world you can get a refurb that is 3 to 5 years old , but the battery needs to be changed. Dell latitude 2 in 1 is similar.

At the moment in 10 inch there is the GPD win max 2 , it runs windows , but is more a handheld games machine.

Intel core ultra CPU is just about to come out in many laptops and is probably a good choice in a portable machine, though the AMD zen4 CPU is very good also

Lenovo ideapad 14 inch should be available shortly with Intel core ultra and could be about 1 kg

For a portable machine I bought a refurbished dell 7200 2 in 1, 10 inch , i5 8th generation, 16 gig ram for 300 AUD. But then I spent 80 on a new battery and 100 on a 1 TB M2 SSD. It came with win11 and I ran a win11 debloat script on it to remove all the telemetry and windows store etc.

I will wait till later this year to see what is available with the new core ultra and zen 4 chips and maybe upgrade
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

I use Windows 11 pro because of the single language limitation with the Home edition.

If you want to swap between languages, which I do often, then Pro is necessary.

I run a Mac. The software just updates as it needs. No need to weigh up do I need 10 or 11 or what can I afford. Life is too short.

That sounds so absurd that I checked it, and you are right. Microsoft are utter fukers - this is the type of reason that I moved away from them and will never buy a Microsoft OS running machine again. Bastards. Micrsoft apps such as Word, Office, 365, etc, run much better (in my experience) on my Mac anyways.

Making you pay to use more than one language - that's a repulsive sales technique (especially in today's multilingual/multicultural home/world)...

I tweaked the registry to allow me to install W11 on my old All-in-one.

It looks a bit nicer than W10, but isn't that much different.

You can install and use in your applications as many languages you want but the OS has a single language for its menus, settings.

So it's easy and possible to do (as in the apps), but the Microsoft marketing/sales/greed team don't allow it at a system level - it's a pretty poor showing from MS, isn't it?

Okay, sorry for the misinformation. I didn't think I could have multi keyboard, multi language in the home edition. I didn't realise it only applied to the windows os language and menus.
Does that mean you can also change the ',' '.' decimal separator etc.?

The Macs are too overpriced for the average user, who is unlikely to benefit from their performance.

^ Not for everyone, but my Mac Mini (i5) with $150 34" Samsung screen makes an excellent home PC (and entertainment centre) for a reasonable price. Plus, in the 6 years I've used it there have been zero problems; the current version, which is very strong, is 21,000 baht. I was against Macs for years and years, but once switching to them have saved money (they just last longer and are more reliable) and worked carefree without endless OS and hardware problems. Nobody will listen, I never listened when iSheep Mac adorers told me...

My 2017 12" Macbook (Intel Core m3!!!) is still going strong, looks like new, has never let me down in any way (Could do with a new battery though - the charge is about an hour off power now). When I used Dell laptops (which are good), they'd last three years then kaput (PSU and battery usually, but have had other failures too), and the endless Microsoft problems were infuriating (although Microsoft OS seems to be better now than it was back then).

A entry level M2 (or M1) Macbook Air is expensive, but will work faultlessly for 5-10 years (maybe a battery change required). Not for the OP, as they are 40,000 baht, I agree it is pricey compared to an Acer (or most brands).

I don't like iPads, I don't rate iPhones as highly as the best Android phones, and I don't wear the stupid iApple ear pods or buy their other endless shite, but the Macs are superb.

So now that you've been advised to buy an Apple, a tablet, mini PCs, various laptops and a car, are you any closer to your decision Dave?

I loved my macbook air until no one here could replace vbattery
my macbook local repairer wrecked logged me out permanently now a brick.

Id pay 40k no isse but all tech cars tvs cells seem to be outdated in 4 years or less
Ill mull over keep ideas coming but for small size with hdmi good, I know hdmi to usb conertors and bluetooth mouse options just really like hae one piece of small lightweight kit that will allow 2-3 browsers languages and 3-4 windows open in each, too fiddly on my samsung phone or ipad

Are you implying that android is cheap? If so, you are wrong, the flagship Samsung phone is every bit as good if not better than an iPhone. I guarantee you that the PC I built is light-years faster than a mac with a better processor, more RAM and a better video card. No thanks, I will stick to Androids and PC. Proprietary platforms suck ass.

I tried Samsung's before. They were nice new, and after a few months, 2 years at most, shyte. I just replaced my 6 year old iPhone, and it literally was still going fine.
