I have not noticed any improvement but I have lost some functionality.
For instance there used to be a tray in the bottom right corner with a bunch of functions to choose from, like casting your screen to a TV. In win11 it is gone and is replaced with keystroke shortcuts. for instance "screencast" is replaced with the Window key+k , which is fine if you use often and can remember, but for functions you dont use often , by the time you do, you have forgot the shortcut and I have to do a Google search for., but often I don't remember what the function was called
a mess IMO.
Other than that . I did not have any problems.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
It's fine. Like any new version of Windows there is a learning curve, but under the hood it's the same old.
They've made a few features optional because few people used them.
Improves startup speed, performance and disk usage.
It's an Apple wanna be. But having the start in the center probably makes more sense anyway.
MS programs used to be called programs. Now they're called apps. Because of apple
It's my favourite version of Windows.
Previous favourite was Win 7.
Just bought a WIN 11 laptop. It is fine. I read that WIN 11 is handling modern multi core CPUs better than WIN 10, which is important for calculation heavy applications. At this time if I want to buy new, I go with the newer OS. No need yet to force a change on existing equipment.
Only problem with the new Dell is it is so much faster than my aging tower PC that I don't want to use that any more.
Looking into buying a docking device that allows to add 2-3 external screens and fast external drives so I can use the laptop as a PC replacement. I learned that the USB C port with display port and charging on modern laptops is amazing. I suggest you look into which kind of USB C port your new laptop has. They don't all have the same capabilities.
The docking devices all come with very short cables. It is not a bug it is a feature. The devices support 5GBit/s which needs short connections.

I updated to Windows11, when it became available, without any problems.
My "start" is on the left so I guess I must have moved it after installation. It's simple enough to do...settings->personalisation->taskbar->taskbar behaviour-> set alignment to left.
There's a few more unwanted items that I had to switch off such as the widgets on the taskbar...
Thanks all, some interesting advice
Any suggestions around 20k in Thailand?
Acer aspire 5
can't go wrong with that. I am on my second one and the first one only died do to an unfortunate deceleration event against the wall, after a particularly passionate disagreement with the wife.
I was able to find the same and a little better deal at our local mall , so why buy online? If I remember correctly, I got it for 19k and change
Make sure it comes with a backlights keyboard.
Thanks Guys will be in Panthip tomorrow see what's on offer
I assume any new stock have Windows 11 home as standard
Is it worth the extra for a Pro software I don't use for work or gaming , mainly skype, here and Bellingcat research
I went chinky and bought a Huawei D16S. I fooking love the thing. It's by far the best laptop I've ever had. My only complaint is the built in microphones have no noise canceling.
^ here's a link I found for one .... Huawei MateBook D 14 SE (Core I5 12th Gen) Price In Thailand, Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Mueang Nonthaburi | Thailand | Laptop6 THA I have a 16" laptop, but that's because of the way I work, it allows me to have one tab on one side of the screen with the student on it, and the other side of the screen I can have my teacher's dashboard up. I'm guessing a 14" laptop would be all you need and the specs for the price on this one are superb.

So, If I allow Windows 11 to install (i haven't yet) it will actually improve the speed and performance of my humble Acer i5 ?
I'm a bit leery about Windows updates because previous versions just loaded my puter down, and slowed it.
^ I'd upgrade if your computer has a generation 9 intel processor or better.
Right, it took a while to find out (my computerese is as good as my Farsi) but mine is a 10th Generation i5 CPU. So I'll give it a go. Cheers Topper.
Thanks everyone food for thought
