    Browsers Opera Firefox IE etc

So which is the best browser?

Ok I shall start with Opera first, lets start with the bad points.
It is clunky, ie you open a page and it just doesn't smoothly open it, you get to view the text background on advertising gifs and stuff like that, it doesn't work with forums so good if your following a fast moving thread, this is because on a refresh it takes a load of the info out of your cached files, this makes it look quick but it is only loading at times mainly from your pc, ie you post something, 5 minutes later you refresh the page and as far as you can see nothing has been posted, this is due to it taking so much from your pcs cache, its ok if you do a hard refresh, ie ctrl F5, that shows you anything new.

The good points the tabbed browsing is pretty good, hover over a tab and the page opens in a small window, a bad point is when you right click on a link to open a different page in a new tab that becomes your new window, this is a bit of a pain, ie if your doing a google search you might want to open 3 links, you got to keep going back to the google page each time to click the new one.

On the browser it also has a small google window, if you open this up it also gives you other choices of search engines to use including yahoo.

Speed dialing, got to admit I haven't worked that out yet, but I assume you just chuck a few urls in there and they become your default.

All in all pretty good for general surfing and pretty fast, although they did claim a few weeks ago that it was the fastest, aint no point in being the fastest though if you aint getting the latest changes in a web site.

Firefox wins hands down IMO. Not only does it open faster than IE, there are now so many add-ons and extensions that you can even run IE windows within Firefox, just for those sites that don't display properly in Firefox.

I've been using it for several years and nothing else comes near.
The truth is out there, but then I'm stuck in here.

I downloaded Opera as a second browser on my work PC (IE waas having problems), and it seems ok. It doesn't show Yahoo Mail properly though.

Firefox is by far the best browser, but the new IE7 is not too shabby. For some reason it won't install on 2 or my 3 PCs....

Been using opera for a couple of years now, mainly for the mouse gestures, very good for opening threads in new tabs quickly.
Using Firefox also as back up and its growing on me. far too many sites dont render properly in Opera and DD is spot on about the refresh. control f5 has to be done for decent refresh.

Been using Opera for a long time, never had a bad word to say against it. I have not tried firefox. Opera seems much faster opening web pages. If I start IE and Opera at the same time with the sam URL Opera is displaying the page when IE is still thinking what to do next. Can not get it to work on the company computer though.

    I use Safari mostly.
Firefox second. (certain sites work better with firefox)
Camino third. (seems to be as good as firefox or safari)
    IE is horrible.

This is the first I heard of Opera.

Firefox. Changed for the tabbed browsing a long while ago. No way I'd go back. Flirted with Opera for a week or two but it didn't do anything for me. Wouldn't touch the Mac stuff.

I've got SeaMonkey this is the new name for Mozilla why they've got a separate product from Firefox make me wonder where FF is going...
I've tried Epiphany not bad very Moz/FF like like it forget which distribution it came with.
Knoqueror is pretty good, strict with cookies if you have any kind of anti cookie policy set. Renders Ok but some block-level margin/padding issues I think VEry similar to Opera. of them All Opera and Konqueror are the best javascript plaforms when writing ecma compliant code. All have tabbed browsing a library of extensions and are pretty customizable Knqueror makes a nifty file manager too.
Day to Day Fire Fox. Looking at web stats for many of my pages they are rapidly gaining a large market share. Two - three years ago 80+% of all browsers hitting the sites were IE that is now down t0 the very low 60s

I use Firefox on both platforms (PC & Mac) & hands down it's the BEST browser!

Well IE hasn't been coming out with a new browser for the Mac in years, so by default Firefox beats out Safari (the Apple browser).

But for the PC IE is slow, buggy, & doesn't have as many plug-ins, compared to Firefox!

I was surprised by the high percentage of Firefox users on TD, so I went on Wikipedia to see what's up:
Usage share of web browsers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The #'s are all over the place, but all things considered Firefox's #'s are pretty good, considering IE comes w/ Windows XP.

Using Opera at the moment because recently my Firefox has started to crash quite often... it's pretty good, but I still have to go back to FF to use some of the extensions.

I'd use Opera if I wanted a browser that I could just download and use straight away, but FF is great when you've spent the time to customize it.

I started playing with opera today for the first time, been using IE up till now and didn't know any better, but after my PC doc was here last time I noticed he'd installed opera for some reason.
I'm a self confessed pc idiot and normally just stick with what I know,(yeah, scared to find out that I might learn something).Anyway I've been having a ball checking out opera and I find it a lot quiicker and that it has a heap more features than IE. Ithink I'll play with it for a while and see how I feel.
Shit! now I can't find spellcheck and the smilies run outside my window.

You need to set opera on what your monitor is capable of, probably, "Tools" "View" "Zoom", if you just use your pc for fun though you would prefer firefox I think.

Ahhh, its called lack of work, this problem will resolve itself quite quickly hopefully as I have decided its probably a good idea to answer my phone occasionally anyway this thread was aimed at people that need to run a couple of browsers all the time, ie poor trolls like cmn, and the more sensible people that need to view websites etc in a couple of browsers to make sure they actually work ok, your best bet is using firefox though for ease and utilities.

    Opera, IE, then Firefox.

Intersting thing about Firefox is that they find that 50% or less of those who download it actually keep using it.
