    Space, blimey!!!

I spent the day cleaning up me desktop, sorting out all me files in every facet from all my laptop and all me thumbdrives and stuff then getting one perfect filing in place and saving this to my new:

I got the 2TB version, as you do, but I was a bit concerned that I might not have much space left over once the job was completed.

There's about 1.85TB of usable space on the external drive, and after putting all my files onto the beast I have about 1.65TBs left.

Blimey, 2TBs is quite a lot of storage space, isn't it!

    You're fucked mate.

Samsung has announced that it is now shipping its PM1633a SSD. That's a boringly mundane name for a drive that's anything but: the PM1633a isn't just the biggest SSD around, it's straight-up the biggest drive around. At 15.36TB, it dwarfs other SSDs and surpasses the capacity even of the very latest magnetic spinning disks. Remarkably, it packs all this storage into a conventional 2.5-inch package.

I don't need an SSD, speed to/from storage is not important to me. Me laptop is old and shite (always was shite), so I expect it to pack in anytime - just want good secure storage.

A nice 2TB SSD is 600 Great British pounds!

$50 - $100 for a 256GB microSD or USB drive is pretty good, imho; although a 1TB might be the minimum I'd want for storage nowadays; don't need it, but like the sound of it!

    ^ You can talk, Camel-muncher!

    ^^

But seriously, I never before realized just how much space 1TB is to the average Joe and Joe-ess.

How reliable are the large drives? Over the past couple of years I needed 4TB but didn't trust the big ones and ended up with 4x1TB WD.

I don't know, I was hoping the answer would be very! I don't think we ever know how safe they are until they fail, but a well built hard drive should be ok for 5 years, at least, you'd hope.

I'd like my files to stay safe and secure for 5 years, 10 years, before I have to move them onto yet another disk...

    ^^^ Stoker would.

I purchased a 2 TB WD 2.5 inch external to copy the stuff to and carry with me - once I am done I will have to run clonespy and find all the duplicate files

I had used 2 of the 1TB units previously , which will be given away as movie drives for televisions when I am done.

I am thinking to purchase a 3.5 inch 4 TB or such to put in my old desktop at home and use as the backup for all the rubber chicken porn
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

I found one on Pirate Bay which was wicked. Took no time at all to delete about 5000 duplicate photos. I think it does songs too.

I dropped my 2tb passport ultra the other day. The cover came apart but it still works so it's pretty well made.
