What programms do you want to run on it ?

How come the mods didnt stop papillon choosing such a similar user name?
too busy removing non PC posts no doubt

VLC player open office or summat like it, Freestone pic editor etc. Is it the case you have to use totally different software for everything?

Any Linux i tried gave me always difficult time when traveling. Complicate to setup other wifi connections and more big issues for stuff that goes unnoticed with Windows.
Well last time i used Linux was back in 2009, might have improved and i'm no geek.
I seen computers handling machines working very fine with Linux for years, but those machines do not travel as much as i do.
Monday,Tuesday, then it goes WTF !
Linux is pretty good these days if you're just emailing, web and shit.
And you can install Puppy on really old PCs and extend their lives if you are so inclined.
you can try most distros off a memory stick
I have mint as a guest
Baldrick's right.
Use Rufus to burn ISO's to a USB.
https://rufus.akeo.ie/
Get the ISO's from here:
DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD.

Got it on DVD but takes ages to start up
FFS, if harry can install a linux distro, anyone can, even your grand mother
it's really not that difficult,
in my days, we did it the hard way, boot linux with floppy, config lilo, and kernel recompilation
only real men can do that, that is not harry or baldrick or your grand mother
hi Perota, any progress

Linux Mint 18..Cinnamon incorporates VLC..Mintstick..Mint USB format..plus Gimp(photographic programs..) plus thousand more..
In Windows..download..https://unetbootin.github.io/..then go to ..
https://distrowatch.com/?newsid=09458..
Open Unetbootin ...use existing disc image..put it onto a USB stick..Turn off computer.put stick in..start up..press F12..or whatever brings up you boot order menu.
Choose try out..if like it left hand top of desktop hit install Mint..when it loads..answer 6 or 7 questions..like time zone keyboard layout, put in user name /password...keyboard preference..Choose US..takes about 20 minutes..no drivers needed..they find it all..You need internet whilst installing.
You will then have access to 30 or 40 thousand free open source software.
I use all around Thailand and never had a problem..WiFi wise...
It uses Libre Office..although you can change it to Open Office..
If you can post a photo on Teakdoor..you can easily use Linux..

Right fuk windoz then i'll install it

Don't forget to Create a set of recovery discs for your present O/S..
If you don't like it, you can reinstall $windows..its all your drivers, programs you need.
Just create a USB stick then you can try Linux Mint out..its slower a bit, booting from a Usb stick until it is installed..

Don't forget to format USB stick to Fat32..put stick it, open up my commputer, right click..choose format..dropdown menu..choose Fat32..
After you down load Mint..distribution then open up Unetbootin..lower left side, you will see..disc image..iso..on far right, you will see a small triangle with three dots in it..hit that..browse you files to downloads..highlight , then you will see..C/users...
Next bit is when you see numbers 1 to 4 ..it takes about 5 minutes..it goes fast ..then stops ..then will go to number 4..where it says re boot..pull out stick..
Shut computer down..put stick back in..reboot..etc
