Cheapest Place in Bkk to buy top end phones?

The missus has popped home for a two week holiday and wants to buy a phone.

She's been with me over here in Korea for most of the last 2 years, so she's out of the Thai loop...

While there, she wants to get herself a phone. &, you'll all be pleased to know that she wants a Sony Xperia Z5 (a woman of taste, a taste for quality!).

The first place she looked, in NN, was 27,000 baht. She has since been in the temple for 3 days (along with the supreme patriarch; no not Issara...).

So, smartfolk, folks in the know, with the changing BKK, where is the best place to buy a new phone and at what price a Z5?

I told her to look on the internet, find the cheapest price then go to Paragon and demand the same price. But, she never listens to me, not in 15 years, so please advise:
    Cycling should be banned!!!

And how much did that bring the price down by?

^ beat me to it! I didn't get to sleep til 8am last night/this morning due to drinking beer, playing the guitar and generally doing whatever I want.

She, on the other hand, can spend time at home with her ma and pa...

That is yet to be seen, however there is little doubt she would have made a donation, I think she said she paid up for the whole year at 10 baht per day - just not sure if that is for the whole family or each person???

Thank you, I'll tell her to check it out. I was hoping she might see a Z5 mini that she likes which might be 20,000 or just under?

She has been skimming off from my salary for the last two years and went home with about 100,000 baht in her pocket. She is also talking about selling the car - she reckons somebody offered her dad 400,000 cash for it; we haven't used it in the last 2 years, so I don't much care...

When I bought my Tablet last year I hunted high and low in Bangkok to source the best price For the model I wanted.

I was quite surprised that the very best price was to be had in MBK.

The trick is she must know her best price then go in hard and negotiate. Business is slow at the moment and they are keen to make sales.

Her being Thai will be a big advantage.

I thought Fortunetown was the go to place for the best price but not so.

Oh yes, she needs to put in a bit of foot work.

Of course MBK has original and knock offs but they are up front regards this and will ask you if you want either.

Tell her to go have a look see around there but make it the last stop after exploring other places.

^ thanks, Terry - but I don't reckon I'd be able to get her to MBK; she's not fond of the place.

As you say, perhaps they are upfront nowadays, but a decade or so ago when we went they certainly were not, so it was a minefield. She bought a phone there that I told her not to, and it turned out to be a legit shell with shite Chinese interior...

Also, some Thais seem to be better at cheating Thais than they are at cheating foreigners, so I'd worry about the missus going to MBK without me (Mr Cynical, non-believer).

    ^

If she does not know her phones maybe not a bad call.

Send her out to Fortunetown then.

Much more user friendly out there without the MBK madness.

    More Thai orientated as well.

Only the 'Premium' has a 4K display, among other bells and whistles that she may (not) need.

^ I think Paragon is the same owners, and I used to buy there as they have a lowest price match policy.

^^ yes. Her current phone, the Xperia Z, is as good as the top end new phones in real usage. It's just that the Z is about 4 years old now; has worked perfectly in that time - I got it in Dubai many moons ago...

    Bollox!

It's new out but nit brand new, no new xperia z6 for a while, so now is an ok time to buy.

She has decided, due to the fact that shs seems to have spent all her money, that she will buy the phone in Seoul. I think this means that it'll be going on my credit card bill - but she won't be getting away with that one, again...

The Samsung Galaxy s6 Edge was the best phone of last year imo.

That only came out in September. I heard Samsung are revising there marketing strategy so they're not competing with apple and their Galaxy S7 will be out in March.

As soon as that comes out together with the HTC and LG in March, the price of your wife's (under clocked due to overheating) Sony will dive.

And I will be back on this thread in March to tell you 'I told you so'

Why does she want a top end phone?
They pretty much all do the same thing these days. It depends on the apps you download.
I'm still using an xperia something I bought in 2013 and it's fine (despite having been dropped a few times, are they the new Nokias) but my missus traded her Samsung something a few months ago for a Xio Mi (4) the Chinese Apple. Brilliant according to her, and relatively cheap.
I'm a stingy bastard, I can't fathom spending 20,000 baht ( about 4000 RMB) on a phone that really doesn't do anything more than any other.
These phones are WAY overpriced for the mugs.
As another poster mentioned, wait until the next model comes out and get yours at less than the mugs price.

I also have a Xiomai. Lovely piece of kit for half the price of Apple/Samsung and the rest.

Don't believe me? Check out the benchmark tests on Youtube. These things are up there with most of the higher end phones.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Whilst in the Sony shop looking at the ps4 I picked up a z5, they're still as slippery as a butchers prick.

    Prices were

    Z5 compact - 19,900

    Z5 -22,900

    Z5 - 25,900

The cheaper places to buy on here as shown by Bogon for example, won't have a Sony guarantee, I very much doubt.

These were new in, you can listen to your tunes or hook it up to your tv and play DVDs.

    Thanks, Dilly.

Did you notice if they had a Z5 compact in pink per chance? Yes, she wants pink.
