    GPS car tracker

Has anyone experience with using a GPS car tracker with sim card ?

do they work - will they just overlay on Google maps ? will they log speed etc

    similar to this - gps ???????? ???? TK103A | Lazada.co.th

If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

Is it a 'cat' or a 'car'?

We've got some system installed in all of our security vehicles. It showed some fucker speeding home and parking there during the shift when he was supposed to be on patrol.

But all they did was tell him off because he's a raggy.

However it wasn't a single vehicle thing, but an SME app for a fleet, which I guess isn't what you want.

The New Toyota's that have the Navi system have the GPS tracking.
You have to pay for the service.
1 time I was crossing the Border at Sadao & Toyota rang my TGF to ask did she know that our pickup was crossing the border in to Malaysia.
So if your car or truck gets stolen it can be track down.

It must be a simple one? 2G? Just gives the location and time?

For any other info like vehicle conditions, engine hours etc you'll need 3G or 4G which does not yet have comprehensive coverage in Thailand.

What kind of SIM does it use? Is there a cost for use? Does it track continuously or only when you ask?

Cheap GPS tracker (Model:TK103A) - My review and installation

    • has the SiRF III chip-set as used in top branded GPS units (Garmin, TomTom)
    • highly sensitive. Can decode GPS signals as low as -160dBm
    • programmable via remote text messages and also local USB connection
    • remotely disable/enable engine via text message
    • location reporting at user specified intervals
    • inputs for door sensors, fuel level, ignition switch and even microphone
    • outputs for alarm sounder (can connect to vehicle horn or dedicated siren)
    • Lasts 4 hours without external power using internal rechargeable Li-ion battery

requires a standard sim card with 2g functionality. The other thing to consider when choosing the sim card is the cost of text messages and the ability to remotely view how much credit is left
One which uses a data only SIM, has a fixed cost of 100 Baht a month with no top ups required but if you are happy with 3baht text messaging OK and top ups etc.

Emphasis on the "little" since you're the one that has the phone and the password.

Send message "password 123456 XXXXXX". XXXXXX is a new password of your choice. Password must be at least 6 characters and may be numbers or letters. If the password contains letters, they must all be lower case. Note that if the password is forgotten, the unit will need to be reset at the factory.

If it was only you, with the registered phone and registered password maybe.

    As poster indicates:

the fact that Toyota is observing your car, either manually or by some algo, suggests the power to turn your engine off is at best, in the hands of a "probable" civilised company, or open to abuse by any type of legal or illegal organisation.

Presumably a Toyota owner can disable this "benefit" installed in all Toyota vehicles? Presumably one can inform Toyota of the cars likely usage time/geography and Toyota can disable the car if it exits the agreed geographical area, night driving hours, speed limits, or monitor the drivers voice for gender, language or loudness.

The last one is because all Thais talk very loudly.

doubt it is really for the owners benefit - they probably have some clauses in the warranty they can wiggle out of

Not sure if it can be disabled, as I cross the border it would have come up on there computer screen, as the Thai registered truck was on it's way out of the country.
The pickup was 2 month old

Allegedly it can, post #10, by a text message. That means by anyone who has access to a phone.

do you own the car or do they ? - is it still on finance ?

for it to communicate it must have a gsm/gprs radio transmitter/reciever - I am not talking about the GPS reciever - and that radio will have an antenna

Yes I appreciate that, but the majority here, who have a GPS system installed in their cars/pickup, will probably have the manufacturers option.

We can track the pickup if we pay a monthly fee.
