Recommend a Tablet to buy - July, 2015

I am going to buy a tablet soon. Within a week and a half.

    I have casually used / browsed a buddie's Samsung S10.5.

    Seems decent.

Yes, I've read online consumer reviews, but I'm looking for members who are interested in this topic.

My usage: surfing the web, reading online, and using headphones for occasionally using headphones for youtube / audio.

Hardly any downloading will be necessary. No gaming.

Cheers to anyone who can chime in.

I've had the S10.5 since it was first released in Thailand, and use it for the same purposes you mention above. No complaints at all, it does exactly what it's suppose to do and the screen is fantastic.

I bought the LG G Pad V700 10" mainly because it has amazing battery life and I wanted something for watching movies and stuff on long haul flights.

    Nice bit of kit.

I got the Samsung 2014 10.1 and it's worked flawlessly. I've had it for well over a year. From reading books to scoring tests, web browsing and watching videos, it's done everything I've asked and more. My only complaint is that it's heavy compared to the latest round of tablets.

However, after playing with tons of tablets, my favorite is the Samsung 8.4. It's perfect for reading, slimmer and lighter than the 10.1 and to me, just the right size. It's going to be the next tablet I buy.

I got a cheap, 79 pounds, HP 7"er - what a pile of shite (as per my shite HP laptop...).

Do NOT buy anything that has this sign on it:

As per usual, ignore Cannot321; 7" screens are too small. Get, at the very least an 8". If you are planning to do any writing/work at all then get a 10".

As 'Arry knows, the one to go for is:

    Cycling should be banned!!!

I have a 12.2" Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro for Kodi that I use as a TV in the bathroom and the kitchen.

    That's bloody great too.

    Wouldn't touch that Sony shite.

I have a Samsung 8.9, bought for exactly that reason.

7 inches were too small, 10 were too big.

I've had my ipad for over 3 years. I've looked at plenty of other tablets and nothing is as good or as reliable.

Android tablets are only for people who can think for themselves and who like to make the machine work in the way that they want it to work. Apple is fine for people who cannot be bothered to learn any form of customisation and it has a certain snob value.

I have an Android phone - OnePlus One and I think it is probably the best mobile phone available on this planet at the moment. For the simple tasks described by the original poster, a tablet has to be Android and my preference is for Google.

Bought the wife an Acer (Windows OS) which can sit on it's own keyboard connected wireless. Seems okay ...does everything my old Aspire laptop does and more. ..no mouse pad on keyboard but expect external one could be rigged if one knew how .
Personally dislike touch screens have a couple of Chinese tablets...even using a touch pencil cannot compare with accuracy of a mouse.

Had an opportunity to buy a tablet recently for the princely sum of 2,000 baht. Got 2, gave 1 to my secretary. Main aim was to move to an online calendar, that she could edit, and we could both see my schedule.

Anyway, the machine was a "wisebook w803T".

Both loving it and hating it.

The memory is 16Gb. That's it. It comes with the complete windows 8.1, and the full MS Office system. How fucking awesome is that. Its a nice size for me to use, and the screen is pretty good. Not a movie buff, so not really tried that.

So, what is the problem? The f*cking memory. Free memory is about 1.5Gb. Loaded up the calendar (just the Hotmail one) - which clocks in at, wait for it -about 1.4Gb. Boom. Cannot even load even one additional app.

Apparently deleting the installed stuff I don't use (maps etc) frees up zero. Nothing.
And those b*stards have so designed it that while you can add a micro card with 64Gb, you CANNOT put apps there. basically its just file storage.

So, for its intended function (calendar, web surf, check emails) its pretty good, and for 2,000 baht amazing deal to be honest But, well, when I see it, and use it I want now to do so much more!!!!

So, almost certainly be going out and looking for something better, as I am pretty much sold on them...

..and my secretary is pretty happy with hers, as all she does is use my calendar, and check her emails.

I bought a 10" Samsung Tab 2 a while ago - they were discounted because the next model had just been released so it was fairly cheap. I use it mainly for reading (80%, I guess) and internet (the remainder) and it's absolutely fine. To be honest, I'm not sure what would make a good or a bad tablet. You turn it on. You read a book. You look at a website. That's it. There doesn't seem to be much to judge there.

    .
I don't agree with that at all.

I like the ipad, because I've never had to fuck around with it to make it do what I want.
I've spent the last 36 years working professionally in I.T.
The last thing I want to do when I get home is to have to screw around with my personal devices.

I've been there just as long as you and my android tablet hasn't needed to be fucked around with.

If you live alone like Smeg that's pretty much all you can do.

You say that you don't agree with me and then you say what I have said ! You have no inclination to customise and that is your prerogative. One thing for sure is that your device is incredibly expensive for what it does. It probably does less than an Android based tablet but costs much more. You are free to spend your own money as you wish.
