    AVG all fecked up

Was very happily using AVG . Now it has lost a file, tell me to re-install but when I try to install the new AVG 2015 it is also missing something and will not install.

What is the next best alternative? For good virus free protection?

Ifyou want to keep it, remove it and then run a disk clean up utility that hits the registry as well. Reload it after all traces have been removed.

Otherwise, Avast is on a par.

Yeah...I suspect it is something that he is doing regarding the AVG installation and rejection.

Avast is ok - needs to be updated and maintained like AVG.

Malwarebytes for anti-spyware/malware is decent - trial period can be reinstalled.

You need to remove every part of AVG from your PC, then install it again.

Either use Revo uninstaller or manually do it yourself by following this guide,

    Really, just go commando.

I don't shop on my laptop and only use it to browse, torrent and stream.
    No problems whatsoever.
I have a usb internet connection and would know if I've been zombied.

Ok something about base filter something but at least I have Avast running so I don't feel like I'm stood naked in the street. Will continue to see why AVG won't load. I was happy with that.

I just use the free one that comes with windows - Microsoft security essentials,
and then scan often with Free Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware.

I also have the free Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit running all the time .not sure what it does though ...

and use AdwCleaner eg from bleepingcomputer.com to remove sneaky toolbar hikjackers.
