    Why the lies?

On Sat Dec 30 my CAT connection slowed to "walking pace" on Sun the 1st of Dec, Jan (my wife) phoned the "technical services" in Bangkok and did so every day until Thurs ,she was assured that the problem was at my end and nothing was wrong with the CAT signal coming from BKK , I now read that the rioting "Hooligans" broke into CAT offices and did 300 million bahts worth of damage! , why did they not just say that in the first place instead of coming out with a load of bollocks?, I am now pleased to write as of the last 30 minutes or so that my PC speed is back to normal , what is up with these people ?, why not just admit it and have done with it, is it a "face" thing or What? or could it be they are trained to lie just to keep the customer from putting the onus on them to put things right and get their house in order?

    piwanoi,
If you have ever worked in a company with a corporate mentality, you have drilled into you a corporate response to every question from the great unwashed, us.
And i guess the CAT response is what you have received.

Yeah I suppose I do , I had my own business for 35 years and never ever give my customers the "runaround", so it went from strength to strength cos it had a good name for customers services , I later on sold it for a tidy sum having built it up from virtually nothing , maybe thats why I am some what against state owned monoliths were the customer always comes last , as is nearly always the case here in LOS

One of the "Beauty's" that was mentioned to Jan was "check the wires maybe the mice has chewed them"

My power went out a few days ago. Called up the local EGAT office and the idiot says when I told him 'mai mee fai', he says 'did you pay the bill'.

    We're surrounded by them...

Yeah but one must not complain about crap customer services, cos then we run the risk of being accused of "thinking too much"

Took a long time to "train' my sales staff to sell the customer what was best for the customer and not what is best for the salesman.

You have it right Neil , cos a contented customer is far more likely to (1) recommend you , and (2)far less likely to take his business elsewhere , that's how business's grow and prosper , a simple fact which appears to elude many people and certainly Thai's being no exception to the rule

No they are not but will easily learn to lie if they get rewarded for it.
    Pavlo's dog comes to mind.

Not good marketing to tell your customers that the infrastructure on which they depend can be knocked out by a bunch of flag waving monkeys.

Lying is the Thai way of doing business. Sad, but true.

Yes indeed Ralph you are spot on with your opinion(thanks) but in essence good business first and foremost is founded on trust (or should be) this however is sadly lacking here ,were the rich and corrupt politicians make impossible to keep promises to the sadly uneducated masses just so they can plunder the states coffers , this is shown oh so clearly with the so called "rice pledging scheme" were untold billions lost are uncounted for

^^Ralph , This article just exemplify's how business should not be conducted, lies are lie's in whatever field one cares to mention ,and I always fail to grasp the simple fact of those voiced by Thaksin supporters that the poor are not getting poorer (least ways in my area) whilst vast sums are being spirited away to who knows where ?Graft concerns are just a joke | Bangkok Post: opinion as the article says quite clearly this so called clamp down on graft and corruption under this administration is quite frankly a huge fucking joke

Incompetence is a way of life here as many jobs in all strata's of Thai society are either bought , or acquired through cronyism/nepotism , one only has to look at Thailands current PM to understand that, along with the Thaksin "clone" the late Samak and Thaksins BIL "lion heart" Somchai .

If you want an example that typifies acceptance of poor standards, look at the SRT governer who vowed to resign if there was another derailment on the Chiang Mai trains.

Of course there was one immediately, and he responded by blaming a station master.

I totally agree with your opinion, i.e. "this article exemplify's how business should not be conducted". When I was building my house and was lied to by the materials company on several occasions, I became fed up with broken promises and confronted the manager or director as they are called here (as I often do with a problem). He told me that was the way everyone does business in Thailand. That was the first and only time he ever told me the truth. Corruption is also the way of doing business here. It's so bad, that many in my area anyway, are proud of the fact that the country is so corrupt and laugh about it. Really sad.
