This mobile phone looks good value

I'm by no means an expert , but this mobile phone looks good value 17,900 Baht down to 9,690 Baht , the spec looks ok , 4.8 inch HD super AMOLED screen , 1.5 GHz Dual Core , Memory 16GB , RAM 1GB , Micro SD slot , NFC , Front Camera 1.2 mp , Back 8 mp with flash , Etc . Running Windows Phone 8 . I know WP8 is not every ones first choice

    So two questions

    1. Why do you think the price is down to 9,690 Baht , for a phone with a good spec like this ?

    2. Could Android be installed on this phone ?

Albert , it was the 4.8 inch HD super AMOLED screen that caught my eye , I can't think of another Samsung mobile phone that comes with a 4.8 inch HD super AMOLED screen for 9,690 baht .

    Windows phones are shit

Take no notice of that Super Amoled bollox. All that means is the capacitive touchscreen is built into the display instead of on top of it

look further down at the specs of the screen, its only 1280 x 720 pixels.

My screen can show my 4.8 inch wanger's blue vein in glorious HD.

    Text me I'll show you

WP8 is actually the best platform if you only want phone, SMS, Skype and a bit of Web browsing. Piss easy to use and configure, and a better bet than Android if you are technically, er, challenged.

Just lacking a reasonable application base, and it probably won't be upgradeable to the next release.

^ has macro zoom, you'll be fine.
Just add something for scale in the background.

I've got a Galaxy Y and I'm happy enough with it, except for the tiny memory, but the missus wants me to buy a new one so her niece can have the old one.

What I'm after is a cheap android, preferably Samsung, one or two models up, that I can teather to my computer etc.
Same size screen, two cameras and a bit better internal memory.

    Any suggestions?

Seems to be a decent enough phone - it's a cheap price because the specs are 18 months old, but running windows OS that's not a major problem (slow processor and low RAM doesn't matter so much on Win8; you can get a top spec machine like the xperia z for 16,000 baht). Nonetheless, it seems to be a decent phone:

Thanks to an excellent build, good specs, beefy storage and an open body design, the Ativ S is an excellent WP8 option. However, its downright frustrating how close it comes to being the ultimate Windows Phone device, only to see it fall short in key places.
While HSPA+ 3G is nothing to sneeze at, it'll never touch 4G LTE. Therefore we can't fully recommend it over an 8X or Lumia 920 when it comes to data speeds. There's also the rumored Ativ Odyssey, which is said to have 4G LTE on Verizon. That makes us want to hold off altogether until that device comes into the spotlight.
Then when you compare it to an Android phone, or the iPhone 5, it's defintely wanting in the app department. There's also the lack of turn-by-turn directions, which every other phone ecosystem has.
Ultimately, the Ativ S is good, but painfully held back from greatness. The hunt for the ultimate Windows Phone continues, but if you want a device that's subdued but stylish, and will have a cheaper data rate than an LTE phone, the Ativ S is right for you.
