Trouble streaming You Tube and other vids

Forgive me if this has been posted before. My machine (granted, it's old) stutters every time I try to watch videos. The plug-ins are current, my internet speed is great. I thought maybe it's about the graphics card, but I can watch dvd's or dloaded vids no problem. Might it be my browser? I'm using Firefox, is Chrome better? Can anyone suggest a solution?

^ good question. And now I feel like an idiot. Don't laugh, "448MB RAM". How much to buy additional RAM do you think?

I suffer a similar issue and it shit's me no end.

Takes for ever to watch (firefox) a 2 minute clip on youtube what with all the buffering and crap yet if I hit my download manager I can download it within seconds.

I have 8gb of ram and a GTX 660 GPU so grunt is not the issue.

    would love to know why.

^ Fondles- I was using Ffox as well, I'm testing out Chrome now (I have never tried it), and so far it seems smoother, I don't know why, but no complaints. Have u tried Chrome?

Scratch that last reply- still choppy- not as bad as Ffox, but still frustrating to watch.

That's definately part of the problem. 2GB or 4GB should be fine and pretty cheap.

mine only stutters on a slow internet connection

Perhaps running a free version of ccleaner, just before watching the streaming
to clear the cache, might help .

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

make sure you untick saved passwords etc if you use them .

    can also use their
    -tools- startup -
as an easy way to see what progs are starting with the computer , as they may be hogging resources , having too many running in the background ,
you can right click and 'disable' to stop then auto starting.

or use windows to see whats starting with the computer
    type msconfig into
start / search progs and files
and untick most of them .
